Nice writeup. It looks like the axles have have ABS rings. Any special consideration for the ABS sensor prior to pulling the axles?

            Great writeup.

            A couple things to note:

-On most later panthers, there's no need to rotate the carrier to slide the pin out, as it will come out in either direction.

-Repair bearings tend to leak, so they are only a short term solution. Make sure to keep an eye on your gear oil level if you use them.

-If you absolutely cannot get a bearing driver to install the new bearings, the old bearings will work, but be careful with your fingers.

Not trying to be critical-just throwing in my 2 cents.

Thanks for the heads up on the repair bearings. I am using them for a short-term soulution until I build up an 8.8 to swap in. I have a Trac-Loc diff, with 3.73s and my housing is pretty rusty and looks like crap so I don't really want to put the new parts into it. I will be rebuilding the whole thing, from seal to seal, diff housing, gears, the whole shebang. Possibly a girdle but I'm going to have to save money for a driveshaft, forced tailshaft lube mod, extended taishaft, etc., etc.

Just in case someone doesn't think keeping the seal good and bearings intact is important:

Yelp. Was coming back from Richmond, VA with a car full of shit. Was cruising down I-85 at exit 11 in Montgomery, AL about 0300 when I noticed someone's tire went rolling past. Damned if'n it weren't mine!

Eh, it was the '99. A good number of '99s have had somewhat inexplicable axle failures.

Looks like a failed bearing that was driven too far. I've seen that on any year panther 92 or later, but you are right about the 99's. In my experience, all the rearend bearings on the 99's seemed to go earlier (pinion, carrier, and axle bearings.)
