I just picked up one today for $10 :2up: . Im going to replace the U-joints. Question is which U-joints do i need? Car is an 85 without the tow package. U-joint is out of either a 92+ P71 or a Aerostar. they use the same shaft. I will be using my front yoke and most likely me rear flange.
Scott, you put that 98 shaft in Nate''s car right?

Think all the joints are the same, the flanges are different in some apps though.

when captain wacky did his with a 90's shaft, he had to use special U joints and swap the box flang/transmission ends onto the new shaft.

there are two different drive shafts. The big shaft came in the PI and tow package it has bigger u joints and flange at the rear. I t wont fit some rear flanges there too big. There are two other flanges on aluminum drive shafts but have the steel type u joints and can be swapped if the flanges dont fit.

I know about the flanges i need to know which PN U-joint to use. they list a different one for a 97 PI and a 85 non-tow.

I thought there was some special adapter U joint used for doing this?

i got under the car today. it looks that the U-joints are the same. Im gonna get a set and try it. I need to install the driveshaft loop anyway.

The real expensive u joints for the PI and tow package are probably the ones you dont want. They are a lot wider across the caps. Most aluminum shafts were for economy and use a bigger fllange at the rear but can be swapped with the steel shaft fllange your car came with.
