    Tint

Started tinting the windows in the 85. Tint is some cheap 35%VLT tint form Vato Zone, Doing it mostly to help keep the car a little cooler, and to help make the stuff in the car stand out. I cant do the drivers window since it is Lexan. The rear window might be a problem due to its size and that ive never done tint before.

Yes im aware that there are bubbles in the tint. I dont really care.

When I had mine done, the guy put the piece he'd cut for the back window on the outside, and shaped it with a heat gun before installing it. You might give that a try if it gives you problems. Otherwise, it looks pretty good. The bubbles would drive me nuts, but if you don't care then I don't either.

Im thinking about taking the car to the guys who did my 97 and have them do the back window and the vent windows. It was only $150 to do my 97 with good tint. cant see more than about $75 to do the back and vent windows. they do nice work and warrenty the tint for 7 years.

$150 for a whole car with good quality tint and such a massive warranty is a very good deal, gotta look for one like that myself already, I'm getting sick of the see-through windows.

Just doing it to reduce the temps a little. Cant imagine how hot it gets sitting in the sun for a week at a time with a interior thats about 50% aluminum.

                Tintin' Aint EZ

Take a pin and pop those bubbles!! Otherwise looks good. Posted this for Phayzer in the Scott Fest forums, it belongs here.

Tintin aint easy, but I think w/ the right prep and a pre cut kit it's dooable.

www.tintdude.com has all the answers, but in a nutshell:

#1 The glass must be exceptionally clean. I mean CLEAN. DIRT IS YOUR ENEMY!

#2 The interior of the car must be exceptionally clean. I mean CLEAN. DUST IS YOUR ENEMY! During the install mist the interior w/ water to keep dust down.

#3 Use a new plastic scraper/squeegee so you dont scratch the film as you get out the air bubbles (comes w/ good kits)

#4 DO NOT try it on a hot dry day where the soapy water used to be able to position the film will dry too fast

I think if you followed #1 and #2 religiously and had at least an extra pair of hands to help hang and position while you squeegee out the air bubbles, for the price of the film kit you could have a good tint job. If I was to do it myself Id go w/ a PRE-CUT kit.

At the same time Im on the fence cause people dont get paid to do perfect tint jobs cause it's easy. Also I would prefer 3M film (they invented it back in 1966 and they're the best) but it doesn't look like it's avail. to the DIY precut market, only to the pros. www.snaptint.com looks like it has good kits and I like the mix and match feature, so Id start there. If you end up DIY I want to hear how it goes!

Yet I still don't see the flat black paint. Wait till the tint turns purple and then you can drive around neighborhoods yelling "free candy" at the kids.

I did the tint on my old '87 with kits from Vato Zone and a squeegie. I think I used soapy water and it helped a bunch to get the air bubles out. I never had any bubbles on any of the windows, so I did things right I guess.

The rear window is umpossible to do yourself, due to the curve in it. I had no luck with it and paid someone like $80 to do it. Money well spent.

the reason tint turns purple is because people wash it with ingredients that harm the tint, such as windex.. the only way to wash the tint is with clean water that is free of harsh chemical ingredients that won't take the color out of the tint.. also i took my 88 vic to a professional and on 3 of the 4 side windows, the tint would get caught somewhere in the door and roll up along side my window.. weather stripping or something, but no tint for my car
