    Battery shopping

Any advice as to a decent battery? Don't want to spend alot (No Optima, though they are pretty), but will spend enough to not buy crap.

    Interstate

My old one lasted 6 years still started like new.
With my new one I can jam my system for at least an hour and she will still crank without skipping a beat!

you dont have to get the $100 MTP-65... I think I had an MT-34R or something... $70ish. Or you can do the side terminla swap with the MT-78

best battery for any frame size is usually the heavyest. The lead plates in lesser batteries are lighter due to thier porosity . Exide makes some good stuff there are a few others. I like to go for longest warinty I can afford. Saved me some big bucks even years down the road.

i like the everstart (neverstart i call em hehe) from wal-mart............cheapest, and the best warranty.........cheapies are 1 yr free replacement...........better ones are 2 and best are 3 yr free replacement........when you return for free replacement, they refund the money..........then you take that money and get a brand new one with a new warranty..........been returning the towny's batteery once a yr for 7 yrs now hehe

I got a 27F Motorcraft in the '82. Working good so far.

I got a Duralast Gold in the Ranger, I don't know the number on it, but it's huge. It 6 years old and shows no signs of dying. It had the 3-year free replacement.

If you care, Consumer Reports says:

                          Best for cold climates:
                          EverStart $60 (65)
                          AC Delco $90 (65)
                          NAPA $70 (65)
                          AC Delco $90 (75)
EverStart $60 (75), CR Best Buy
                          Interstate $90 (24/24F)
EverStart $45 (24/24F), CR Best Buy
EverStart $60 (34/78), CR Best Buy
                          Nascar $100 (34/78)
                          NAPA $60 (35)

Batteries from EverStart, Kirkland, and NAPA are good values

If you live in a warmer climate:
                          NAPA $80 (65)
Duralast $60 (65), CR Best Buy
                          AC Delco $90 (65)
                          NAPA $70 (75)
Nascar $40 (75), CR Best Buy
                          AC Delco $90 (34/78)
Duralast $60 (35), CR Best Buy

All of these scored relatively well in life and reserve capacity and are either national or Southern regional batteries.
