    87 2d Grand Marquis

Finnally, I have found a site where people can understand how I feel! Praise the Lord! LOL.

I have an 87 2 door Mercury Grand Marquis, I have looked and looked for another one just so I can find out how rare this baby really is. It is a dark maroonish color and is sooooooo beutiful. I do not have pics though, for sure I will have to get some for you all. I even still have the origonal locking hubs.
It has 110,??? miles and needs trainy work. Just when I was about to switch transmissions, I heard from someone that doing that will lower the value so now I am saving money to have it rebuilt. It will be a classic in January.

I am looking for more information about how to treat this car right. I don't know what the value is or how to find out but to me it is worth a lot more than the books say.

If any one knows who can answer basic questions about this car please let me know.

I can sit and stare at this car all day. I call this my "happy car."

thats right you have found the mothership!

Most of us here share your passion for "box" panthers - a 2door is harder to find for sure.
Id easily pay 2grand for a cherry black on red merc, or a grand for one that needs some work.

You r transmission has a throttle valve thats linked to your throttle linkages by a cable. It uses plasticy grommets to hold the cable in place, and they are often found deteriorated or missing. Make sure this isnt your problem before anything else! (if it isnt already ruled out)

Not sure if I did the quote thing right but I'll find out. The cables were disconected. I drove about 10 miles to the transmission shop immeediatly upon trouble. He put the cables back (so he said) and couldn't get it to run again. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I have searched through my Haynes manuals for these "cables" and can not find them. Does anyone have a picture so I can see what I am looking for. This is my first "box", I'm used to working on the 89 ford escort (went through three of them). All I've done to this Marquis is flush the coolant (the red neck way with a hose and barrell-LOL). Looking under this hood blows my mind! Apicture or proper lift would help.

The guy seems sincere but it just dawned on me that he is the only one of two trainy mechanics in the area and told me I would have to replace it. I would hate to think he lied but I just realized I never checked. DUUUUUUUUH! Like the guy's going to be seeing me check right? OMG! sometimes I kill myself,

Yeah, so if any one can help me figure out where these cables are on my 5.0, I will be grate full. Perhapse he just let it sit there because I am a poor woman with out the right tools. OMG!

Or perhapse he was sincere and I'm screwed, but he said he reconnected the cables and checked in side the trans for the valves etc....

I'm off until tommorrow, good night 'all
glad to have finnally found you

Uuummmmm I think you're being screwed ....you can't just check inside the tranny. And these "cables"? I'm gonna assume you're talking about the throttle valve (TV) cable. Post you're trannys symptoms or why they tell you it needs replacing in the tech section.
