Do I need a new rear end?

    Ok People.
I have a 2004 Grand Marquis-Black. Will post pix soon.
I have added a K&N air filter, PI zip tube and dual exahust.
I imagaine HP is up near 250HP from stock 224HP.
Have 30k miles on car. Tires are in great shape-Michilens.
When it is wet out, right rear wheel spins more now then b4 mods.
What should I do? New tires? Which ones? Different rear end? When it is wet out I do not get on it off the line. What is it going to be like when it snows?
    What do ya'all suggest?

    Thanks

Better tires for one. The Michelins on your car are most likely designed for long term wear, and do not perform as well. You could install a track lock differential so that power goes to both rear wheels more evenly, but when you spin both tires in the rain or snow, you're gonna lose it a whole lot more quickly. Does it still have the stock 2.73:1 RAR? If so, and you are spinning them that easily, it is definitely time to look into some much better tires.

Yeah, my michelins lasted 4yrs. Great longevity, but they sucked in the winter.

Yeah start with tires then work up to taller gears and trac loc. My dads 03 GM came with michelins. They sucked ass, horrible traction, horrible cornering, and we only got 35k out of them. The tires that cars seem to come with I have found out usually suck.

Also, dual exhaust is good for 10hp, K&N is good for zero HP.

Tires are the number one most ignored performance upgrade. You can really make that car a performer just by changing tires. My suggestion, try these Goodyear Tires.

Yes, better tires = good. If it does not have the electronic traction control, I'd also consider a traction lock and better gears, probably something like a 3.27 or 3.55. I wouldn't be surprised if you have a 3.27 in there already. If you have electronic traction control, a traction lock unit in the rear wont work properly with that system, it'll just confuse it badly.

I have 2.73's in my car, and since going with a wider tire it's a lot harder to spin. I imagine my wheels are heavier than stock (probably not by much) so I'm sure that contributes too.

I could be wrong, but I thought the single exhaust cars had 2.73's in them.

I believe you are correct on the 2.73:1 RAR. Also sounds like an open Differential. I installed General 255/55R16s from tirerack and made a HUGE improvement. These are a performance tire though but with stock tires I could spin them both loose at 4000RPM in first up through 2nd gear. Not with my wider tires. Otherwise, Definatley install a trac-loc LSD. That will help immensely as well.
