    Wheel studs?

    Well 2 of the studs on the rear of my 89 merk broke. Im no mechanic by any means so if this is a stupid question.

    Anyway i want to replace all the studs. I took the wheel off, took the drum off. Now how the hell do i get off the piece that has all the studs in em?

    That's the axle.... remove the diff cover, pin bolt, pin, then push the axle in and pull the C-clip out. The axle will now come out.

      You gotta remove the axle to change studs?

        That was not part of the question. But yes, I believe you can change them without removing the axle.

            drive the broken stud out with a hammer
            now get a bunch of big washers and tighten the lugnut to pull the new stud into the axle......impact gun makes the job alot easier

            1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

              Yup, what he said. I snapped one and had to do the same thing. I'd suggest grabbing a couple old lugnuts because you might destroy one or two pulling the studs in. 1/2"-20 is the thread and size needed.

                Use lots of penetrating oil or just plain oil to lubricate the threads and the nut when installing. And make sure to use the FLAT side of the nut against the washers (or a larger bolt) when installing them like that.
