    Trans Question...

I hear people talking about "wide ratio" AOD's.
or making their stock AOD have a "wide ratio"
    what does that mean?
is it a bigger OD gear or something?
    what are the benefits?

It's a different set of pullies and bands that give it lower [numerically higher] 1st, 2nd and OD gears. If I recall correctly it is the same gear ratios as the 4R70W

Yessir, 4r70W is very close to the AOD. I think you can pull the gear set from a 4r70w and make your own wide ratio AOD.

The shaft from the AOD-E is stronger then the older AOD.I haven't built my own AOD yet but I want to someday I think it would be fun.

A wide ratio AOD is an AOD with the gears out of a 4R70W. The transmissions are basically the same, but the 4R70W has lower gearing and stronger parts, and it is fully computer controlled.

I was gonna do that with my blown AOD I had lying around. I figured having $15 in my pocket was better that havin a blown transmission in my garage waiting till I have enough $$ to build it, so I took it to the recycler's.

so, if I wanted to make my AOD into a wide ratio AOD, how much would it cost me to have it done?
let's just say I wanted 1st and maybe 2nd gear done, but leave OD alone...how much? any idea?
BTW, what are the gear ratios of the AOD and the 4R70W?

Ok somebody make a parts list with part number's and even a price. That would settle most of these questions. Thank you

Here's the pics I took of the pages from my FRPP kit manual when it arrived from Summit:

Roughly an 18% increase in gearing in 1st, and 5% increase in 2nd and 4th (OD). 3rd is the same direct drive 1:1 ratio.

Uh, you can't NOT "DO" overdrive. It's all or nothing. The 4r70W OD band is far better than the AOD one anyway. There is tons of info on this subject. Spend a few minutes and do a search..

Is there a good Carbon clutch pack too?

For clutches go with the Alto Reds, for the bands there are Kevlar bands but those are for full race transmissions.

so, what would I need put in my AOD from the 4R70W trans?
I don't know a whole lot about transmissions.
How much would something like this cost ot have done?
my entire trans rebuild cost me about $1100..I wouldn't want to spend that much again unless the trans gives out.

                              one more thing:
if you put in the 4R70W gears, what sort of ratio would you have for first gear?
meaning: I have a 3.55 rear end, if I put in the 4R70W stuff what would the ratio change to for 1st and 2nd gear?
