Not worth the time and money. You can find 2001+ engines with low miles for cheaper than what it would have cost to do the conversion. However you might have tranny fitment issues.

If you do a 5.4 swap does the AOD hook up to it? If not, what trans do you plan to run?

The only way to run a AOD behind a 4.6 is to use a 91 or early 92 block with the AOD bellhousing bolt pattern. You cant run a 5.4 with an AOD since there are no 5.4 blocks that bolt to an AOD. You could run a newer AODE/ 4R70W behind either a 4.6 or a 5.4 if you get the proper trans/computer.

When I said AOD I meant the stock trans in his car. I thought it was an AOD like the boxes have. What do Areos and whales use, just a regular 4 speed auto?

First half of 92 used the AOD, mid 92-Mid 96 used the AODE, Mid 96+ uses the 4R70W.

In that case it should be the normal 4.6 bellhousing so you can use whatever mod motor you want

I don't think the DOHC 4.6's are performance impared. They have some balls to them, even in N/A form.

They do, but stuffing them in a pre 03 panther is a whore.
