What's holding back the HP on these lincolns?

So.... The engine in my stang's from an 87 Mark VII. Non HO. The stock power specs were 180hp/300lb/ft. Now thats some killer torque #'s, but why is the HP so low? is it because the engine doesnt spin high rpm's in a big boat? Could it just be the Cam profile? What mods do you guys have, and what are your #'s?

The heads are restrictive, and the cam falls flat on its face after 4200...
My suggestion for you is run like an E303 cam and a set of ported E7 heads of a stang..

pick a part should have some!

Also, my buddy justin (phayer5) has a non-ho 302 shortblock with a comp cams cam in it with ported E7s, performer RPM intake, and 1406 edelbrock carb (along with a full no cat flowmaster exhaust with MAC headers) and 3.55s...

He dynoed at 188rwhp, and I know he needs to tune his carb some more...

Scott (lincolnmania) I will have the privilage of seeing that beast this weekend.

Mostly stock 5.0 HO, but with thumper performance heads, and some other stuff, and ith 3.73 gears...

I need to get a tach so I can hear/feel how fast 4200 RPM is on my box. What is the actual "redline" speed on our CFI's, tom?

302's have governors don't they? That's how I found out how fast the engine would go on my 84 Subaru. I just floored it, until it his 6,000, then it wouldn't go any higher than that. I don't suggest trying that with our cars though. Someone ought to know what the max RPM is. SOMEONE!

watch my dyno videos to see what it sounds like trying to force one of these bottom ends to 5.5k

I forgot I had downloaded those at school several days ago. So I just watched 'em.

Sounds good! Especially when the exhaust becomes more visible

My Lincoln Mark VII's max out at 116 mph.
More than enough for a decent 1/4 mile time.
