    -- Audio Upgrades Thread --

Post what audio equipment you have in your Crown Vic, Town Car, or Grand Marquis.

    -----------------------------------------------------
    Head Unit
    Alpine CDA-9855

    Dash
    none
    Doors
CDT Audio CL-61A-25 PRO [$170] 6.5" Component Set
    Rear Deck
    none
    Trunk
    Digital Designs 2515A [$230] 15" Subwoofer

    Amp(s)
    Planet Audio VX3002 [$125] Components
    [x2] Directed 750D [refurbished]
[$110 each] Both work together and give 1200 watts @ 2 ohms for my subwoofer.

1/0 cable was ran to my trunk and it splits into two 4 gauge wires that go to my two Directed 750D amps. The Planet Audio VX3002 amplifier is under my front seat and it has 4 gauge ran to it from the battery. I also upgraded my battery cables 1/0.

I can get some pics up later.

1979 Squire: Old Jensen cassette deck bought for $30 on eBay (only because original 8-track stereo worked only intermittently); Pyramid Audio 4" coaxials from JCWhitney (only because originals were completely disintegrated); stock rear speakers smashed by an errant transmission; 6x9 Lightning Audio 3-ways in boxes are currently being used for home stereo until I go pick up my dad's old Wharfedales and KLH's.

1987 Mercury: Currently, nothing. But a friend of mine built a '68 Mustang with four 4" Infiniti speakers between the doors and dash, two 6x9 Alpines in boxes in the back, and a good but not too fancy Alpine head unit. Sounded killer, no need whatever for a sub or external amp if you value your hearing, and not that expensive overall, so I might try to do something similar when it's time for tunes again.

                My truck has:
HU: JVC cd/mp3 player that I've had for like 6 years. No problems at all
dash: 1" tweeters I had laying around from something with the crossovers
                door: stock GM speakers
sub: 10" JL with the center cap missing, run from a 90w Alpine amp.

Overall sounds amazingly good given the random bs it has and the fact the center of the sub is completely gone. My dog stood on it and it ripped the glue out like 5 years ago.

Hey, this seems like a thread where I might actually be competitive. Heh...

Head Unit: Currently it's a JVC that I think is going bad on me. Something about running 2-ohm speakers off of it and being merciless... As of this posting it's getting replaced by some high-end Pioneer head unit. This one features a motorized faceplate, a full-color display, three 5V pre-outs, and MOFSET 22x4 RMS. My amp should love this thing. The JVC only had one weak-ass pre-out, and using it caused me to lose my fade.

Front: Infinity Reference 5x7 2-ways. I will shortly be upgrading to Kappa 5x7s, as soon as this guy gets them ordered for me...

Rear: Infinity Kappa 6x9 3-ways. These are fabulous speakers and I recommend them to anybody. The bass is stupid-deep and the treble is crystal clear.

Amplifier: Blaupunkt GTA: 4 Special. It's rated at 55x4 watts RMS at 4-ohms, and 85x4 watts at 2-ohms. That's why I'm upgrading the fronts to Kappas... so I can have 85x4 watts RMS.

Subwoofer? Again, as soon as the guy gets it ordered. I'm planning on an Infinity Basslink 10" subwoofer with its own 200-watt amplifier.

So how am I doing so far? I'm not installing any of it myself, but I'm definitely learning a lot about car audio as I go along.

Last summer I went through 3 boxes to find the right one.

                          Deck:
Panasonc CQD 7003???? Indash DVD player

Kick Panels Pods in custom fiberglass enclosure
                          with 4 inch pioneers

Door 6x8s are stock for now

                          Rear Deck I have 2 Pioneer 6x9 4 ways

Subs in the trunk i got 4 10" Premiers all subs in a divided sealed box.

                          Amps
2x Kenwood KAC 8152D amps 1100watts each powering the subs
and a Pioneer 300 watt amp powering my rear speakers

This summer interior will be finished up with 6x8s in the doors and a center speaker all being ran off of amps... future plans will be having the subs right on the rear deck with a c pillar wall.

Has anybody done any big custom jobs yet?

BTW Panther74 you are gonna love the poioneer deck i used to have the 5800mp and was the most customizble deck I have ever owned. Also if you have any questions on installing your car audio let me know.

Pioneer DEH-1600, basic $100-$120 Deck, still working well but need an aux input

                              6" Blaupunkt in the Doors

                              6"x9" Blaupunkt in the rear

I've had the same setup in my zephyr, marquis, and probe. I think Im going to upgrade some time in the future, step up in quality a bit.
