With all the Trans mods I'm doing...

Would it be wise to install a tranny cooler?
Or maybe a bigger fluid pan?

I will be doing not only the Wide Ratio AOD upgrade with 4R70W parts,
I will also be putting in the Baumann Shift Kit.

    yes, both
install the biggest tranny cooler you can afford/fit
there are tons of deep pans for the AOD out there, ive got a B&M pan that holds 4 extra qts, but Phayzer has dibbs on it, but still has not gotten it in about a year.

the longer you hold high RPMs the hotter it will get - unless you'll be doing endurance racing I dont think you motor will will work the trans enough to need more than a medium size cooler never hurts to plan for the future though

Bigger is better. I'm running one for a 25,000lb GVW vehicle.

LPW makes a resonably priced pan that holds 2 extra qts. and is only like 85 bucks.

With the single cooler i had on, if i put it against the converter i could heat the fluid up 30degrees in under 5 seconds.

Cooler is better for the most part. Might want to consider one of those coolers with a thermostat to bypass it in the cold since you live up in the cold regions. It might act a little funny when its in the single digits and the trans fluid is not warming up properly.

                  http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
and maybe a larger pan like this:

Brake-torque the bitch - I throw mine in 1st, put the parking brake on, choke the wheels, and a coffee cup later she's all warm and ready to go.

That cooler isn't a good one... Stacked plate is much more eiffcient.

Well, im the third fastest 79-91 panther and im still using a stock stroke, with factory heads, and a cam that is useless after 5000 even with a 125 shot. besides those dyno numbers are old, that was with the E7s that started valve float at 4000 rpm.

Ive come to accept header gaskets leaking. I chalk it up to cheap headers that probably dont sit flat.
