    New to Ford and panther

Hey to everybody I am new to all things ford. I just bought a 1985 2 door Mercury Grand Marquis from a friend for $500. I will post some pics as soon as I take them. Anyone in the Houston,Texas area? I have alot of questions since the car is all stock. The car is in great shape outside and inside except the dash is broken. The 302 is underpowered big time sounds mean though. CFI sucks. The guy that had it before me took out the mufflers and ran pipe from the cats. to in front ofthe rear axle where they dump. .

You want to have a GM with some power? Convert it to carb, get an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a 500CFM 4bbl. Find some e7's, and I think an 85 Stang GT cam should work in your car. Then add a 2.5" true dual catless exhaust and it'll be one quick Panther. But you can't stop there, gotta upgrade the gears, get a shift kit, trans cooler, bigger brakes, upgraded shocks/springs just to name a few things.

This car will be a moneypit, but it'll also be a project you'll have fun with. Ifd you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask, we're all here to help you.

What are e7s? Where can I start with the cfi setup? The cheapest mod. first. Like removing stock unneeded stuff.
                Thanks for the welcome!

Well, if you want to stick with CFI, take to Pete(85crownHPP) about it, he's the resident CFI master. If you want to do the carb swap, take to someone like Pete(Mercmarquis) about it, he knows his stuff.

And e7's are stock Mustang heads, much better than stock Panther heads(can't remember if Panther heads are e5's or e6's).

                        your 85 cfi car mostlikely has e5 heads......the e7 heads were used on 87 and up trucks and all 88-93 5.0 ho's and some 87 5.0 ho's
phayzer swapped to e7 heads and headers and duals with cfi.....it made some improvement
for real performance gains, carb or efi are the only way to go

Howdy! And welcome to GMN! I suggest going to EFI, but it would be a lot of work and I have yet to see anyone go from CFI to full EFI, most everyone does carb because it's more a remove process than add.
