The Hotrod Police Car took a Dump

Well I've been driving my old pickup the last four days and then I decide to drive my vic to Walmart and when I started her up it was really quiet. It usually isn't cause of the glasspacks and all. But anyways I put her into gear and then she is really rough and sounds totally weird. I think she was running on 7 cylinders. It had no pickup and was sucking down a ton of gas. I have only drove 30 miles on this tank and I'm almost to a quarter of a tank. I'm going to give here some new plugs to see if that helps. I was going to give it a tune up at 100 k but I might as well do it now if a plug is floul. Hopefully it is just the plugs but when I drove her she threw a code. The exhaust smells like azz. So I went to Advance Auto Parts and got me some Bosch Platnum 2s. I will have to wait till she cools down then I will put them in. If plugs don't work what next COPs? I'm used to the ol' distributor and wires so I may need some help there from you guys. I will probably replace my fuel filter also. Any advice before I change the plugs they are in a weird jam packed location. Thanks.

Yeah definitely return those crappy plugs... here is one the former owner put in my car... probably only had 50k onit...

if the CEL is still on go to an autozone they will pull the code for free... it does kinda of sound like a cop though ( ihad one go bad a month ago)... if it is the cop and you only change the plug that will only mask the problem...

Well I but them in. I had hear good and bad about Bosch. Well I put them in and she purrs like a kitten. I will keep an eye out though about the cop. Now I got to find the fucking fuel filter and replace that just to be safe. Johns Goat how did you find out which cop was bad? They were the stock plugs though that were in the car. I cleared the code by undoing the battery for 10 min.

The fuel filter on my 2000 was right under the rear passenger door. It is extremely simple to replace.

Just let the car sit for awhile before undoing the filter and becareful as gas will come out, so turn your head away.

Well I replaced the fuel filter. It was pretty easy but I must not have let it sit long enough cause there was plenty of pressure still in the system.lol It probably took me 20 minutes including the shower I took after the gas shower. Now everything smells like gas. I did have my head turned away though. I seem to have alot more performance now. The old fuel filter was really old and I replaced it with a purolator filter. I hope it is not the same one that the factory put in but it was really rusty and I couldn't read anything on it. I think I'm the best thing that has happend to this car.lol I'm having a brain fart, I can't seem to remember how often fuel filter need replacing.
Thanks for all your help guys and I still will be watching those cops.

before you got uder there to replace the fuel filter, did you remove the gas cap? that alleviates some pressure

what i do is have the car running, then remove the fuel pump fuse. then i let the car run until it shuts down from lack of fuel. then i change it. very little gas leakage.

after install, replace the fuse, turn ignition to on(don't start it though), let the fuel pump get going for a little bit... then i crank her up. sometimes it may take a 2nd crank.
