    Need help-Fuel level sending unit

I cannot seem to find a Fuel level sending unit at Partsamerica, or the Napa website. Please tell me they still make them.

Mine has been acting wierd for a while, the gauge shows different fuel levels all the time, I am never really sure how much fuel I have in my car.

They better still make them. Or I will burn down someones house.

Many of the older units are dealer only or absolete all together. What car are you looking for one for?

      fuel sender....

Look under electric fuel pump in the listings, if yours is an in tank. If that is what you have... not sure what vehicle your looking for or year... if it has an in tank, it is part of the electric fuel pump setup...

as well as just the pump part.. depends on what you order... if all you need is the sender... go to junkyard... most junkyards now pull the tanks and put them in the trunk or inside the car... easy to get the pick up out of them... just bring an ohm meter to check the resistance. This will tell you if it is good or not...
here is how to check one...
Using ohms on the meter, put one lead on the fuel gauge sender contact, the other to the metal body of the sender... then move the float up and down... it should move the needle smoothly up and down... if not, find another, as it probably has a dead spot on on it, which is probably what is wrong with yours... (Causes erractic readings) the sender is essencially a spring with a metal contact that moves up and down against it.. (sort of like the rheostat on your headlight dash dimmer control, on the headlight switch) When one of the "coils" get out of line, or gets dirty, you get a dead spot... and it shows an errant reading..... hope this helps.....

        Junkyard part, easy to replace.

ITs on the front of the tank. Just make sure you got less than a 1/2 tank before you pull, ujnlike me...I got a shower!!

The problem here is, the fuckers here won't let you into the yard. You have to tell them what you want, they tell you they will have it pulled the next day, and you come back in and pick it up. The closest U-Pull it yard is over 300 miles away in Portland.

Even if they did have one, what are the chances it's bad? Yeah, if it is, then they can pull another and thats another day. Something tells they aren't smart enough to pull the tanks out and put them in the trunk either.

            Tanks....

They pull them here because of the Florida EPA rules, they have to empty the tank of all fuel, to keep it out of the ground water... Keeps someone from pulling a tank, and turning it over and emptying it on the ground...
They also have to drain any fluids, and the Freon from the A/C....
