    5.4l DOHC "B" series

I've been piecing together a 5.4l for sometime now and have finally decided to go DOHC and carb'd. This combo should be kick ass with the 5spd. Hopefully over 300 horses too.

    Stock B series DOHC heads
    stock MARK 8 cams
    stock block
stock pistons & rings, compresion ratio 9.5/1
    stock forged crank
    aftermarket H beam rods
    Holly 750 carb
    Sullivan intake
    stock exhaust logs

    Every thing else STOCK!

I'm having alot of fun ....finally! I've been piecing this car together for some time now.
    Do it with a 5spd!

That sounds like an interesting combo. Someday i'd like to swap a 5.4L DOHC into a new F150, but build it up first and possibly sticking a blower on it. That'd be possibly one of the best half ton pickups ever, strong frame and a beastly engine.

I think it will rock and fuckin' roll!

          300 hp is conservative, though!

This thread talked about how you do a 5.4L carbed engine. Getting rid of the EFI in favor of a carb is silly if you ask me (other than making it simple), but what do I know?

Not to rain on anyones parade, and I even understand the carb conversion, but why stock everything else? I don't understand why you'd go to the trouble of a project such as this and not bother to upgrade anything.

Sounds like fun but that carb is too much. 650 would be much better.

Ford has done a good job with stock parts. Such as the crank I'm using is forged STOCK. The pistons are Hypo's.
And their are no aftermarket heads available.
As for the rods, the stock rods are junk and a big liability thats why they got replaced.

I'm shooting for a low budget modest build. Keep in mind that the factory DOHC Modulars can spin 6200 RPM stock.

340 at the wheels mang? I dunno, but I have very little experience with the modulars.

The Mark was rated at, what, 280hp? About 1hp/cubic inch. I figured about 330hp on a 5.4L, I added 10hp for the intake (probably conservative).

I guess it depends on how restrictive the factory intake was and how the 4.6 heads like the added displacement of the 5.4L.

So lemme revise my math here... lets say you get 40 horsepower out of the intake and carb over the factory hardware and tune. And lets say the heads like the added displacement and net you 20hp. That brings you up to 390, assuming the 330hp I started with. Now deduct 15% for the drivetrain (5-speed goodness) and that brings you to 340hp @ the rear wheels. Maybe better, considering '03-'04 Cobras put down 360hp to the rears stock and were rated at 390hp @ flywheel.

So I guess I meant 340hp at the rear wheels .
