Seafoam in the Crankcase...

    Seafoam in the Crankcase...

    When you put Seafoam in the engine oil, do you do it right before you are going to change the oil? Or do you put it in right after the crankcase is full of the new oil, and run it for the life of the oil change? The can (and website) is unclear about this, and I don't want to trash the engine (my only driver). Anyone with experience? Thanks!!

    put seafoam in the crankcase just before an oil change, let it idle for 10-15 min, i would not reccomend driving with seafoam in the oil

      yes seafoam is a solvent, dont wanna drive on thinned oil

        I'm tempted to try Seafoam on Super Unknown. At 161,400 miles, she no doubt could use a cleaning.

        I've done searches and read, but have more questions.

        1. I've read that you can add it three ways:
        --1) Vac line from brake booster
        --2) Fuel tank
        --3) To the oil

        a) If I just add it to the fuel tank and vac line, do I still need to do an oil change right away?
        b) Should the fuel filter be changed after a tank is run through?
        c) How full should the tank be when adding Seafoam?
        d) Is it necessary to add it to the oil for a thorough cleaning, or can I get by with the vac line and fuel tank?

        2. What size can do you guys use?

        3. What are the steps to follow when using it (how much to add, how long to wait, how much to drive it, etc)?

          Sea Foam...

          OK, the three ways to put it in helps in different ways....

          1. If you put it in the oil, it cleans the inside of the engine... all the oil valleys, lifters, etc.. so that is why you don't want to drive it very long.. I put mine in and drove directly to Walmart for the oil change... (Less than 5 miles)

          2. If you put it in the gas tank, it cleans the gas system, fuel lines, fuel injectors etc....

          3. If you inject it into the engine with a vacume hose, it cleans the intake system, and if you do it correctly, it should "choke" the car until it stalls.. Then you let it sit for a while.. like 20-30 minutes.. while it works on loosening any junk on the vlaves... and restart it... It should smoke like a bitch for a couple of minutes... which is the junk being burned off....

          I put half a can in the fuel tank, and half in the crankcase... I am going to do the vacume hose thing next, to clean up the rest of the fuel system and valves next... I HAD a lifter tapping.. after the Sea Foam.. no more tapping....

              Thanks for the info. I'm gonna try and find a couple cans this week and have at it on a warmer day.

                    I tried it as well half in the tank half in the crankcase and i brought another can and ran half thru the vac line...It seems to work good...
