What kind of motor would you have to build to get a 1989 Towncar into the 11's in the quarter mile? Straight up dragster I'm talking, not a DD. Could a 351 do it, or would a 460 have to?

You can make a 1000hp 302. It all depends on what you do to it.Last edited by Blaze86Vic; 05-08-2007, 08:16 AM.

A 13to1 408 with AFR 205s, cam with 240 to 250 dur. at .050, Vic Jr intake with a 930 carb, min. 3" exhaust should give ~650hp.
That should do it.
Co$t ~$8K
That much power will require a very stout C4 or a very strong C6.
Co$t ~$1K with a quality convertor.
At 11.99 C-clip eliminators must be used, so the 8.8 will have to be built to handle the power. Either weld 9" tubes to the 8.8 center, or install aftermarket C-clip eliminators. 33 spline axles min., or better yet, 35 spline axles with a spool.
Co$t ~$1K.
A fuel system that can keep up with 650hp will require a cell, top of the line pump with reg. and ~9/16 fuel line.
Co$t ~$1K
The suspension will have to be tweaked to get the power to the track. Since no aftermarket control arms exist for this chassis, something will have to fabbed or modified.
As was stated above, everything not needed to go straight will have to be removed. Weight needs to get down to ~3500#.
You can't go 11s with just a lot of motor.
A BB will throw more weight on the front and would require even more tweaking of the suspension to get it to hook.
Good luck with this project.Speed cost....how fast u wanna go??
It's not how much hp u have...
It's how much hp u can put to the track...
Let's seperate the men from the boys and put that power to the track using street tires and stock suspension components

im gonna see how close i can get my car to 11s with stock stroke and factory heads. i only have to cut 1.4 seconds off my best time. Car is over 200#s lighter, will have an additional 1000 RPM of motor and nitrous, full slicks on light wheels (that will remove about 200#s of rotating weight) and if needed max the nitrous solenoid out at 150, maybe try to find some cheap cheater solenoids and hit it with 200.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

Well I think I've got a good start with the ~500hp 408, and if I get it to hook there ill throw some nitrous on it up to maybe a 2-250 shot. The AOD I've got can handle the current power for a lil while but will probably need to be beefed up a bit with the juice added on. The fuel system is 5/8" up to the front end. For now I've just got a sump welded on the stock tank.
At what times/speeds is a fuel cell required?

"At what times/speeds is a fuel cell required?"
9.99 or 135mph and quicker.
9.99 also requires a special NHRA drivers license.Speed cost....how fast u wanna go??
