    Ford Flambe

Well, engine is in, it started, then lit off. I guess a fuel line cracked someplace and the open headers lit off drippings underneath. I'll have to take a look at it later this week to see how much damage was done and where the leak is. I dont think there should be too much wiring damage since I got it out pretty quickly, but who knows. Most important thing IT RUNS!!!

watching gasoline boil after it drips onto your intake while changing jets at a track is quite an exhilarating experience :headbang:

Yeah, I hope I can get away with minimal damage as well. Hopefully its just an improperly seated springlock connector or something minor and the wiring harness isnt toastyfried. Firewall insulation is pretty much a loss, but I'm not overly worried about that. On the plus side, I'm sure there must be less grease and oil caking my transmission now, as some of it had to burn off while it was cooking. I'll pull the upper intake later in the week and see what damage was done.

A few years ago I was talking on the phone to one of my buddies who was working on his escort at the time. He had the carb off and while it was off I suggested that he try to start it with the carb of by spraying fuel into the intake. Well the next thing I hear over the phone is the engine cranking, a whooof sound and the phone drop followed by an "oh shit" I was laughing my ass off cause he forgot to plug the fuel line so when it cranked and backfired the fuel was squirting out the line. We were both laughing our asses off the next day at school when he popped the hood and showed me the toasted vaccuum lines.

Hah! Hopefully I can get away with some toasted firewall insulation and maybe some roasted split loom, but I have no idea. This weekend, assuming its not raining, I'll take a look.

Looks like I got lucky. Aside from some toasted split loom tubing, the wiring harness is fine. The only thing that really cooked was one of the coolant hoses to the EGR spacer, but that one was too short and needed to be replaced anyhow. Also destroyed were the two vacuum lines that go the the heater thermal lockout thing that wasnt present anyhow, so thats not a big loss either. Fuel leak is from the top of the #8 injector. I guess the new O rings didnt seat properly or one tore or something when I put it together.
