He's in Grand Rapids, I believe.

Anyway, I haven't much to say except that I'll be there, and I'm looking forward to seeing those that I've met before, and meeting those I haven't. :)

Oh, okay. Keep your eyes peeled in the event I get around to having this mini-meet I keep talking about at my house just south of Lansing. :)

Weren't some of us trying to put together a Grand Rapids meet sometime recently?

97marquismuscle
01-03-2008, 04:14 PM
Well i'm hosting a few of them but they arent just GMN meets.. All ford meets to be exact.

http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthread.php?t=20302

I fear that we will not have the support though to make this nationwide. I have been on the horn to quite a few people and I guess im hoping time will change a few things.

but yes there should be a Grand rapids meet... its a big city with ALOT to do and many places to hang out at.

There are two places in grand rapids called " the lot " were many people gather on a weekly basis. But im gearing my event towards fords only and of course you fellas.

If you guys have any ideas of what to do and when i will more than happy to help out with anything.

I'd be up for a Grand Rapids meet anytime between September and April when I'm at school. I'm a good person to have at meets because just about ANYTHING looks good when it's next to my car...the guys that saw it in December can attest to that. ;)

Yeah, but your cars are white! The salt shows up a bit more noticeably on a grayish/bluish/just plain ISH car.

hehe - I tried getting off on Saline Road once. I got good and lost. Didn't help that the driver's side wiper arm broke that night and it was snowing like a you-know-what. I found myself on M-14 with the hood flying up at 50mph! :bolt:

Lost? Like when we were driving east on 12 Mile looking for Wal-Mart, after having figured out that going south on Van Dyke was taking us away from 12 Mile? :lol3:

Actually, that route will probably be fine - it looks really direct. :) I was just randomly recounting a thkawy experience. :p Think I was coming from a different direction, anyway.

I am NOT 100% if I can go or not. My employer is juggling my wolly bo-bo's on the schedule. IF I can make it I will post so the thursday before.

As for those who fear getting lost and what not. I live 1 minute or 2 streets from I-94. If it would be of benefit, Those who want to can come to my house before and we can convoy together there. I know Ann Arbor really well.

For those coming on I-94 WEST when you see Ann Arbor saline RD ( it kinds sneaks up on ya ) turn off there and you will see the Applebee's on the right. You will be making a right and another right and a 3rd right into there parking lot...Google Earth ROCKS...:2cents:

For those who care. I have a camera on borrow. It uses analog 8mm tapes. I will shoot any damn thing you want except your accuracy in the restroom. I will have one tape to use for all of it. I will then pay to have it DVD'd and then chop it up on iMovie and post that on youtube. If I can manage this next trick I will find a way the edit the "raw" footage in owner/car sections so you can have your own stuff unedited to do with as you wish....Guess this means I get left behind to shoot everyone leavin huh...

Sorry I couldn't attend guys, was planning on it, but shit happened:

1. yesterday after work we were doing front brakes on the 4x4, my buddy must have not seated the wheel studs properly cause both tires got loose, the front left snapped two studs in half, the remainders of the studs got stuck inside the rotor and killed two of the studs that hold the spindle to the knuckle. That happens at about 11:15 and like 3 miles away from home.

2. I call my roommate, he comes over, I jump in and we haul ass for the only parts store still open at that time of the day - Murray's on Van Born and Telegraph, which is about 15 miles away. We get there 5 minutes before closing time, I get my parts and tools needed to open the axle, we head back. Less than a mile later we hit head-on a wheel and tire chilling in the middle of the road - my roommate's car swings the wheel to the left lane where some else hits it and kills their rear right tire, wheel gets pushed back in our lane where the car behind us hits it head-on too.

3. Few miles north along Telegraph car overheats and we pull over - wheel bent the lower radiator support, left tank cracked, car's offline. I call AAA for a tow, then a friend for a ride (remember, my truck is still disabled on the side of the road). Tow arrives and we drop off car at school's parking lot, then we drive my roommate home so he can get some sleep, and me an my buddy head back to my truck.

4. I spend two hours fixing the rotors and studs, on both sides of axle too, just as a precaution. Then my buddy goes home, and I drive to school so I can put my new calipers and master cylinder in. Right about 8 in the morning I'm done and go home for a few hours nap.

5. get up around 2pm, get roommate to help bleed the truck, then we haul ass to some used parts place 20 miles away to pick up a new radiator. We go back to school next, then spend the rest of the day tearing down the engine bay, pulling radiator and A/C condenser, beating the shit out of the radiator support so it's flat, and installing the "new" radiator. Still need to modify one of the dog-bones, it wouldn't fit with the new radiator and rubber under it, so I'll have to get creative with the hand drill.

Depends somewhat on how much snow people are comfortable driving in. So far, the two Detroit meets I've been to, I drove back in pretty messy weather - in fact, when I got home from the December meet, the local police were out trolling the roads for stranded motorists. I'm not so concerned about a little snow as long as it's not blizzard conditions, I can see, and the car keeps working!

I know the feeling, drove 225miles one way at 90mph for a football game, ended up with like 15-16mpg - ouch!

Dunno about saturday tho, steering is all fixed but that small vacuum leak really bugs the shit outta me... then worst case I can run fast idle while in town and then lean it out it on the freeway... Will figure it out by Friday I hope.

And family's from Sicily. That's kind of kewl. Any relations to the guys who cooked up my favorite style of cheese pie out in Illinois? :) My wife's dad's mom was Italian, but I think she was from farther north, especially as that family's favorite pizzas are flat (New Haven style).

Great pics, Colin! The consecutive-year Grand Marquises (Marquis's?) look very natural together. My only whine: no side-by-side engine shots to show the difference. But that'll be more fun anyone once Gabe gets his motor built. :)

Ok we go to see a friend of Colins:brownbag: to have his carb worked on.

a two lane paved road turns into a 2 lave gravel rd which turns into a 1.3 lane gravel snowy road. Were going like TEN MPH. Hes close in front of me. Now he has taking this same turn a thousand times....Same turn Same throttle blip Same ass swing.:3gears: well not this time. He went 90 :pilot:to the left on a VERY slick tight corner. Im right behind him and I have a turned wheel attack of UNDERsteer ....My tire treads fill with ice and becomes drag slicks....I slid until the ditch and street meet. I got out and looked. I was 1/2 tire foot print from having my ASS in the air...cuz the ditch was that steep.

So basically I almost:bawling:ended up getting a new car.

Wow, my '92 Civic had one, too! It was labeled A/C for some reason. When you hit that button and the light went off you had to hold on. Those 175-60-13's never stood a chance uphill in the rain with 200 lbs of salt pellets in the trunk. It was like you added 10 more horsepower, which is a lot when you started at 102.

Not much difference in SOTP between 75% to 100% IMHO, but every little bit helps.

I wouldn't mind owning some sort of Chevy at some point. My wife's Cavalier doesn't really count, but a '78 Monza with a 350 might be fun, provided you don't have to pull the engine to change the sparkers. Or heck, they're light, why not a Buick V6?

This a an interesting Citation:

That same HT4900 motor yanked my DeVille around like a paperweight. In a Citation it would be amusing.

HT4900's are not CFI. Multi Port Fuel Injected all aluminum roller cam Caddy 300ci. The eight injectors in that thing fail frequently. I had to replace all of mine at 67k. That motor is a torquey beast for a 4.9. You should drive something that has one someday.
