so, i am looking at putting in a little bit of a system, and am kind of eyeballing the pioneer avic-n1. is it posible to swap the stereo and heater controls or is there no easy bolt and swap?

i think you would have to do a lot of customizing.......heater cable#1

I had an Eclipse DVD head in the Vic, The stock location was perfect. Any lower would have sucked for everyone to see the LCD screen.

i was just wondering, cause if i get a flipout, i dont want it getting stopped from hitting the dash, if that makes sense.

Hmmm. my HU had two positions for reach and 6 angle adjustments. Without those, it would have hit the dash sticking out under the clock. Better make sure the Avic-N1 fits okay somehow. I know it tilts, but will it clear the dash without a hideous adapter?

well, the avic isnt my first choice, but it is still under consideration when i'm ready. i like it cause of the built in gauges.
i am also considering power acoustik as well.

with some modding you could put a double din in it. I put a AVIC-D2 into '87 MGM without moving the heater controls. I will try to post pics tonight so you can get an idea.

I don't know as HOW it would be done, I bought a Kenwood Headunit (Din Size) and it came with a adapter and it was too big, took the adapter off and it works nice and flush, it also came with a cover ring that hides the gaps......Best of luck......:pilot:

Well just in case someone else was thinking of doing it. I had to cut about 1/8" - 1/4" from the top of the ac/heater controls.

no took a dash kit for '03 up GM (metra PN 99-2003) cut the stock dash plate to fit the dash kit flush. then glued it to the dash. then used bondo to feather the seams. and last sprayed flat black paint. everything behind the dash plate was removed. It took one day to put it in (had to wait for glue, bondo, paint to dry) the radio is mounted to the dash plate.

Wow, a stereo installation where the result looks like it actually belongs there! NICE!

Thanks, This is what I am known for. taking something others say can't be done or can't make it look like crap, and make it seem the manufacturer wanted it there.

You want to experiment with a metal and woodgrain Lincoln dash? lol

I have looked in to doing a box Lincoln like yours, there is just no room to add a dbl din, sorry

yeah I know, but it would be nice to have a single din in there with the trim plate around it. The current setup doesn't allow that.

basically it just needs to have the hole opened up a bit, like 1/16" or something. Its got a bevel inward that would have seated against the flat face of the stock radio. Probably if it was opened to about that silver painted mark, or maybe not quite so far it would be ideal. I can actually just go get one of these panels from the junkyard and have at it with the die grinder. Probably won't be too hard, but keeping it straight and even is going to be the challenge.
In all honesty, I just wish the stock radio didn't blow horribly or I'd be using it. They look nicer visually, but as far as function, forget it. The 88+ radio is much better, but the 86 premium radio is a piece of junk. If I could wire in a later stock radio and have aux inputs for an ipod and xm, I'd be all over that. I'm actually considering replacing that stereo, I want a better mp3 player to replace my 10 year old dinosaur. Prob get something with an ipod interface, and I'd like to keep the aux input for my xm.

I have cut many of those. best bet put about 3-4 layers of 2" wide masking tape as a guide and to protect the good part of the dash. using the radio cage, place the cage on the dash and use the tape to trace the cage. take a jig saw with the highest TPI count you can find and cut out the hole for the radio. take your time! It will come out better. a dremmel works, but there is a better chance for f-ups. also to help the jig saw blade spray WD40 once and awhile on it to help it move better. after cutting use the cage and mount the radio to the dash plate.
