What's the point of SPL over SQL?

I'm just wondering what the appeal of SPL over SQL is. What's the point in having loud, banging bass that sounds like shit... is it a contest to see who can go deaf quickest?

Give me a single ,good-sounding (JL Audio comes to mind) 12" subwoofer. It's still enough to cause hearing loss, but sound fantastic at any volume level.

Opinions are like assholes: Everyones gottem, some stink worse than others.

What I am saying is you like what you like, and I like what I like, personally after you hit 120dB you dont really CARE what is SOUNDS like...Your too busy just tryin to breathe.....

Okay, fair enough... but hearing aids look silly and uncomfortable.

Big SPL levels are usually found at competitions. Its a lot easier to do a simple db measurement than a spectrum analysis to see how accurately the sound is being reproduced. Its also a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to build an amp that cranks out serious power if your primary concern isn't audio quality.

I know little to nothing about car audio. But, I have to agree with PantherP74 here. If its just loud, then all it makes is noise. I would prefer to have clarity.

ok, ok, BETTER description of SQL vs SPL:

SQL-How nice your Bose Home Theater reproduces all those porno flick soundtracks.

SPL-How fast/easy it is to piss off the neighbors(hood)...

            Hope this helps....

if you look at the db drag vehicles which are custom built for one reason only to produce the maximum spl, they are not even drivable in most cases.. You may not see the point in it but it is like a top fuel dragster. it is built for one special purpose.
