I have the stock stereo in my '88 Town Car. The one with the tape deck and the toggle volume control. Well, lately it hasn't wanted to eject my tape adapter for my mp3 player as readily. Sometimes it'd eject it, sometimes it wouldn't. Now it won't at all. It won't even respond to hitting the eject button. The tape also wiggles around inside the deck and unless it's in the right position it doesn't transmit music to all six speakers correctly. The slightest jostle will screw it up, too.
Can I fucking fix this piece of shit myself, or am I going to have to replace it? I'm betting it'd be bad to attempt to pry to tape out of the deck, which is why I haven't done that yet. I have too many other, more important monetary obligations to my car than something as inconveniencing as this.
P.S. back when I first got the car (2+ years ago) it once and a while would eat a tape. Dunno if that has anything to do with my current problem, but it chewed up a Bob Seger tape pretty hungrily and I've been wanting revenge ever since. I'd rather not replace it right now though because I don't have the money to buy a nice head unit, and I kind of like my ridiculously dated stock stereo.
