    High Volume/High Output Water Pumps

Who is making the best and most importantly [U]highest output[U] 5.0 water pump under $150? I require something with major flow at idle because of the underdrive pulley.

stick with a stock cast iron pump for a 351w cop car......more than enough water pump......cant use a stang water pump cause it spins the wrong way

As stated above, cast iron 351 pump (also HD/tow package 302's had em). And you really don't need much more flow. water cools better when it has time to dissapate the heat. A good fan and radiator should be fine. Some portwork on the timing cover and waterpump can help a bit also.

Turbo is running an aftermarket pump, that is modifed to fit.....

I'm running a standard iron HD pump for a tow package car, no overheating problems with my underdrive pulley even when I had a stock 1 row radiator. When that started to leak, I upgraded to a 2 core brass. Stays plenty cool with the electric fan.

even with the underdrive pulley, I blew the waterpump gasket out between the pump and timing cover from pressure. This was with a stock aluminum pump. The cast pumps use an extra bolt on the outlets per side which keeps the gaksets in place.

            woot, found my old thread....

Stock HD cast iron pump it is. I was thinking about this awhile back but figured it wouldn't be anywhere near enough for my application. If it's holding up to the road course and the drag strip, I'll give it a spin. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Napa has a pretty nice water pump I'm gonna go with. Part# TFW43050. I'm looking at a few pics of this little guy and something looks wrong to me.... I know we use standard rotation pumps as aposed to the reverse rotation pumps on the mustangs, but is there any changes in the timing cover? I'm hoping not because I just had a mustang cover blasted and powdercoated and installed it on my engine... Someone please save my day....

HO engine timing covers are hit or miss. I have an 88 Mark VII engine in my car, which uses a reverse rotation water pump. The timing cover has the same shape ports as the original 1986 Towncar engine.

Just make sure that your pump fits wi th the balancer installed. We had to take a good sized chunk of metal off the pump to get it to clear the huge summit SFI balancer on the engine

RIP Jason P Harril, we'll miss ya bro

Thats an excellent diagram with the part numbers and everything, I'll have to take a close look at it after I get the engine home.

Stupendous point lol. I can't wait to get this thing home and spend another $2,000,000 putting the front of the engine together.

Good news! I got the 43050 water pump today, and the ports & mounting are a match. Mine came with the mustang reverse gasket too. I just still have to size up that balancer when I get it... I also got my TCI zero balance flex plate today. Anyone purchasing a flex plate in the future should DEFINATLEY go with a TCI. I compared it next to a stock one and a cheapy SFI one I had on the shelve and you can see and feel the difference. Its tremendous how much more smooth and free of weld spatter it is. Even the noise it makes when you tap it confirms its fabricated out of much higher grade, well hardened steel. Good deal for $89
