How Do You Reset Computer for Oil Changes

My sister has a 07 Grand Marquis LS and the oil change light comes on after 3K miles..She uses 5W20 Full Synthetic Motorcraft Oil so there no need to change it at 3K miles. She wants to change it at 5k miles like the other 3 Panthers we own..The dealer claims there is no was to reset the computer for the oil change to 5K miles..That doesn't make sense to me..Is the dealer right?..Even the dealer recommends 5K mile oil changes even with just the Synthetic Blend.

Our other cars are older so don't have 2 deal with that.

    Thanks in advance.

well, there'es really not much of an option. some vehicles you can change the percentage @ oil change reset, but if it's already set to change it to 100% then there isnt anything that can be done.

    sorry

You could just reset the counter and change it at 6k.

from the manual: To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change
[approximately 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days] perform the
            following:
            1. Press and hold the RESET
control for 2 seconds and release.
Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL LIFE
XXX% HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL”
            is displayed

If it is not going the full 5000 miles or 6 months, there is an issue with the message center or whatever sensors it uses to calculate all that.
