Ok I think I spotted the problem.

Why are you trusting that sweet engine to a FRAM?!?!?!?

no the fram filter is just on there to keep crap out of the engine for now. I will break the motor in on a motorcraft filter and then i have a dual remote filter set-up that will have 2 mobil 1 filters for after the engine is broken in

How come everyone is knocking FRAM?
I never had a prob, and it is easier to change them etc.

For what it's worth, I now have a Motorcraft jobbie on, but just as a trial.

            flame me if needed...

got the carb bolted down and the air cleaner put on it looks like i might be able to clear the stock hood for now. the drivers side header is going to cause some trouble, i might have to cut the back tube and shorten it a little. the headers are for a mustang so the rear tube is bent to go around the steering shaft and i need it not to go around the shaft. i am going to buy an ignition next week MSD 6AL. Matt or Jason either of you want to but a Crane HI-6S it just piggybacks on the stock ignition.

                            got ignition installed MSD 6AL
                            got distributor installed
put in 6 qts. of oil and 1/2 quart of cam and lifter break in oil (it is barely touching the dipstick)
                            installed a motorcraft oil filter
                            primed the motor
                            eyeballed the timing to 10deg
got the drivers side header to fit but still does not clear the steering shaft

all i need now it to finish the header and supply fuel and it will fire
