all the rear bumpers were aluminum. And not just the wagons came with al fronts. Pretty sure my 89 vic had an aluminum front bumper.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

90=91 front bumpers are aluminum on all boxes. Since you have an airbag to protect you, they went to aluminum so the car will "crumple", taking th impact.

to my knowlage, only front steel bumpers are more common on pre '84 boxes. all wagon rear bumpers are aluminum, who knows why...
