    Odd noise on start up

Lately when I start my car (99 crown vic 4.6) I have been hearing a chirping sound. It does not sound like the belts at all. It just squeeks two of three times then stops.
Has anyone experienced this? is it "normal" ? Any Idea what it could be ??

Also I have been hearing a rattling sound as I drive. If sounds like two very thin strips of metal are hitting each other. Kinda like if you take a spring door stop & flick it. Any Ideas as to what that my be ??

I haven't experienced any noticeable power loss. And I am not using more fuel than normal.

I am very confused I can't find anything loose or broken.

welcome to the world of automajik serpintine belt tensioners

85% cause of the noise is the tensioner for the belt

replace both the belt and the tensioner (really easy to do, specially if you dont have a clutch fan)

ok I'll check those & replace the tensioner & belt.
but the metalic rattling I'm hearing sounds like its coming from the passenger side front tire. Could that actually be coming from the engine ??

metallic rattling on a 4.6, hrm, without hearing it or having anymore information i'd say the catalyst brick in the converter is rattling around due to the hanger breaking. very common on the whales

hrm, spring door stop and flick it, i've never heard that kinda noise before in a car...

          where is whiting indianer?

My '99 CVPI did the same thing on cold mornings, ended up being the starter; apparently it wasn't disengaging quick enough.

Well now since it's been so cold, I can hear my power steering grinding. But it is full & does not have any bubbles & does not seem to be frozen at all.
I'm able to steer just fine but up to oppersting temp I hear the grind. Then once it reaches temp it does the grinding but just when I let off the gas for maybe another 15 minutes. Then silence.

The noise is soo loud that I can't tell if it's still squeaking.
