Dear Panthers,
I was making the 13 hr drive from Palm Beach Fla to 24487. Hard rain in SC, worse in Ga. I was worried about Fancy Gap (3100 ft) because that's where we'd hit snow. Rain was bad, snow/slush/ice was worse.Upclimb not too bad. Downside was glass. Twenty one miles at 5-7 mph, fifty foot behind the guy in front, feathering the brake. Once we lost altitude, the cowboys started to pass. Massive slush over the windshield so I took an exit to a lousy motel sited on a slight rise which I just managed (positraction). In the morning five other 2w-drives were stalled below the motel.

Morning: Dogs out, all my doors were frozen so I had to unload dog crates from the wayback and crawl into the front seat. Warmed up.Seriously considered the chains where the jump seats used to be. Figured, hell, I could put them on by the side of the road.

Crept down hill from unplowed motel, arrive at onramp (closed) proceed to another onramp, slip along until I81. Plenty wrecks/plenty trucks. One two-track lane. Plenty ice/salt slush.

The point of all this is the tailgate wipers Scott installed. Heavy rain blurs the side windows and mirrors, Ice/slush destroys them. Like it or not, you need a tailgate wiper so you can see the cowboy coming up on you.

I saw an 80s Toyota 4Runner with a rear wiper, top mounted that pulls up off the sliding window..

looks good how is it wired to the front is it only 1 speed? when you put the glass down does the blade just hang there?

wired to the front with 100% genuine wires!
single speed, yes.
blade sort of slips inward with the glass down, but it sits in such a way that the glass running up pushes the blade back out without jamming anything up.

Nifty little switch above the antenna & tailgate switches. It was really lousy weather and without the tailgate wiper, I would have blind behind me much of the time. I was surprised how useful it was. Donald

Not sure what you mean. The rear door works exactly like the one on any other wagon does. Its got a working exterior handle.

Thats actually what I was concerned about, how well it worked. Glad to hear it works as expected.

Looks pretty awesome. was just wondering did you guys consider a explorer unit. They seem to swing more so than the escort? one you used and the explorer one would set back down on top of the dew wipe on the back, maybe would have been more practical??

I still really like it though it should have been standard equipment or at least an option from Ford.

I'll have to take a look at that wiper motor thats up at the shop. I suspect there may be some way to modify it to get more swing. The extra motor is broken and useless anyway, so it can't hurt anything to dissect it.

ahh well that would be a problem i did not foresee.
