need opinions on redoing/removing coach roof

i noticed today Shifty's coach roof has a couple cracks. they're small but they are there. i know its a bitch to remove as i have to

    drop the headliner
    fill the holes
    remove the fiberglass extension
grind down all kinds of shit
    get a new back window
get a new 3rd brake light housing(the coach roof cars have a taller housing)
    paint

and theres more, and not in that order. i wouldn't mind a slick-top as i would never have to worry about the vuinyl again, but the car wouldn't be "different" anymore. not many people on the cv sites have coach roofs and i've only seen two others in the area within a span of a year

so, replace or remove. speak all ya minds.

I'd probably replace it with new vinyl. Too much friggin work (and more money) makin that thing into a slicktop.

I might do my merk in a slick top cause I dont see any 83-87 slick top merks. But i put some Mothers on the top and it looks sick. I just wish I had shiney paint to match.

This is what a coach roof looks like without the vinyl...

I find that as far as box body Vics and GMs, most of them have the vinyl top. There aren't many around here without it. And GMs, did they even come without them?

When I get my car painted I am going to take off the vinyl since I already have the chrome trim for it anyway. I think it looks alot cleaner.

                good pic Tom,

hmmm, to remove or keep. it doesn't look like too much holding the fiberglass extension onto the body. i know the bar on the roof comes off and such by droppin the headliner and undoing some nuts. i'd have another back window and trim(christine) cause i know the back windows are different. my next question would be is there any difference in the actual body of the cars equipped with coach roofs and slicktop/standard vinyl roofs? besides the fiberglass of course, lol

I'd repair it, I haven't seen many of those at all.

Not many were slick roofs, but more slicks than carriage...2 of mine were vinyl, and one slick.
