    Introducing myself

    Hi All,

I live in The Netherlands (a.k.a. Holland) in Europe.
    So I'm Dutch.
I was erected in the year 1961.
My Mercury Grand Marquis was build in 1996.

Geographics: I live in a little county by the name of Twente, 100 miles east of Amsterdam, near the German border.

A Mercury Grand Marquis is a special appearance around here. A real headturner.
With gasprices 3 times as high as in the USA, it will stay special too.
    1 gallon = US$ 6,20

In Europe, we are used to double a mileage as this car ever will reach.

Well, I hope that I will find fun and info on this board.

    See you (maybe),

    Arie

    HI, and welcome!!

You might see Tom some time, since he is heading over to Europe soon.

You should be able to get 30mpg or so. And I wouldn't mind moving to Europe, but a lot of the roads are not big enough for our cars, and the gas does put a hinderance, however as I hear it I don't think you get taxed on everything like we do either. So that kind of balances the gas prices.

I was asked when I was 17, "If gas went up to $8.00 a gallon, would you still drive that car?" My answer was YES!! The extra cost of driving this car is no different than spending 80,000 on a Viper. I pay because I like!!

We have a tax here thats called "holder's tax". Because one has a car, he has to pay tax. Even if you don't drive it that much.
For my Merc. Gr. Marquis I have to pay over US $ 1,000 per year.

We pay about 40% of our salary on incometax.

Everything you buy over here is taxed with 19% VAT !

This is a very overcrowded country. So real estate is very expensive.
Then you finally got something.................and..... your guessing right......property tax!

If I visit another city and sleep in a hotel or visit a touristattraction........touristtax!

But..............hé, I'm healthy. And we have the best beer over here (Heineken and Grolsch) (ok, with a lot of VAT and excise) But it's still cheaper than gas...

The Netherlands are east of England. We are divided by the "Nordsea"
                That's a swim of about 300 miles I think.

I think you will like it in England. Very strong accents sometimes.
Even if you articulate very good, they still brabble their own 'language' back to you.
But very friendly people, especially in the south.
We (my wife and I) had a few holidays there.

And............your welcome to visit us of course.
