Clutch pulley on AC compressor doesn´t lock

    Hi All,

The airco on my 1996 Merc. Grand Marquis doesn't work.
The system passed the gaspressure test.

After testing the electronics proofed to be good too.

The mechanic told me that the clutch pulley on the compressor doesn't lock .

Are there things I can do, before thinking about replacement of this compressor?

    Thanks in advance,

    Arie

Well, you don't have to replace the compresor to replace the clutch.

I replaced my AC pully and clutch (you usually have to do both at the same time) about a year ago.

      thanks for your answer,

      Do I understand correctly:
It is possible to replace the pully and clutch while leaving the rest of the compressor in its place?

        I think so...

Im not too up to speed on A/C stuff... I do know, replacing the clutch is almost as expensive as replacing the compressor...

Do you mean parts or labor?

Oh glory glory, what a happy day.

I used a little hammer, and tapt the central bolt a few times lightly.
                Engine not running!

Then I started the engine and wow, GOOSE-SKIN! and not because of emotion!

I hope it keeps working, but anyway if it fails again, I now know for certain it must be the pulley (and clutch).

                Thanks all,
                for the help,

                Greetings,

                    Good to hear man!

When I did mine it wasn't that much for a new pully and clutch. I think it was less that $70 for it all. Though it will be more for you being over there.

                      Yes, a few hundred.
                      I hope to prevent that.

I don't know if it helps or not but I blow my clutch out with the air compressor every once and a while. You wouldnt believe all the rust, dust and clutch material that comes out.

I dont have an air compressor, can I use WD40 instead?
                          Or will that do harm?

That would do harm, It would be like greasing your brakes.

                              I have a highpressure cleaner.
How about cleaning with high pressure (clear)water?
