3rd brake light or emergency flasher

Hi,

my 85 Colony Park has, what I assume, a 3rd brake light. It doesn't seem to work. But it works as a emergency light.
If I pull the switch on the steering column it starts flashing.

Is it a 3rd brake light or an emergency light? Or both.

I checked my electrical diagrams but I can't find the 3rd brake light anywhere.

Third brake lights became standard on all cars in model year 86, so it is quite possible you do not have one, although i have heard of some later model 85 vehicles being stuffed with third brake lights. Bottom line is model year 86 sets the standard for all vehicles needing thrid brake lights.

Could be something someone's tried to add themselves and tapped into a brake light. You should see if it turns on with one of your signals.

It doesn't with just direction.

I removed it and it looks very original.

you gotta ground problem it sounds like... had this isue before on one of my old 1987 Crown Victorias...
