    ...and is there a good up-grade over the stock unit?

    stock I think is 130. There are modified ones up to about 200 amps, but you have to be careful who you get them from. Some of them claim 200 amps but can't actually do it, and some do it by re-winding the alternator so idle output turns to crap and it only makes that current at driving speeds. The rjminjectiontech ones seem to be nicely made, though I've never bought one so I have no personal experience.
