    Open diff will not come off!!!!

    Trying to remove the diff as we speak. Took out c- clips and bearing retaining arch-things, and pinion bolt. need help asap! I even hooked up a cargo strap and tried to pull it out to no avail. I'm trying to do this tonight, so any help is appreciated immediately!!!!!!

    jam a big prybar in the carrier and turn the pinion flange.....that usually helps break them free

    1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

      Stupid ? but did you push the axles out of the way?

        you got the whole pinion bolt out right? They snap sometimes. If the pin in the middle that holds the spider gears came out, you're good.

          He took out the C-clips, and as I remember, you can't get those out without first having the pin out. Correct? I also agree with Pesty - really stupid question, but yeah, did you yank the axle shafts?

          They do come out hard sometimes depending on the number of shims in the housing. More than likely you just haven't pulled hard enough on it yet. Like Scott said, go at it with a prybar and it should come.

            Removed c-clips , axles are out. I used a 5k cargo strap to try and pull it out. I'll try the shims with a prybar or a punch to see if i can get some thing to move.

              Put the trans in neutral, as it sometimes can help it to fall out easier. Not usually an issue, but in a unique circumstance it might.

                  got it. Now the spider gears on the trac-loc are being difficult.

                          Worst case, hook the driveshaft back up, start the car, put it in drive, and hold it to the floor. It will all come out eventually.

                              Yeah, everything was good. And i test drove the car for 19 miles before driving to Philly and back over the weekend.
