as far as I know the problem is the trans housing not having enough room to squeeze em by.

I am sure with enough $$ you could have some custom made...

There is tons of room for full length headers, but you will have to make them yourself. Because to my knowledge no one makes any that fit.

no, you have to get the regular linkage out of the way, and you get fox body headers but have to cut them to sit about 1" closer to the block, and not go over the steering shaft.

What detriments do long headers have (hp, torque)?

longtubes pretty much always make alot more bottom end torque and midrange, and in alot of cases, more top end as well, the biggest gains are bottom end and midrange

less drone at part throttle, but louder at WOT, harder to remove transmission in most cases

I always thought it was the complete opposite of that. I was told shorties are better for the low end and longs were for up top.

that is a misconception. they make the biggest difference from 2500-4000, and they make a big difference, can be 30-40lbft, pretty common

I can't remember the name of the scientific theory (it's early, sorry) behind how short-or-long-tube headers behave, but to summarize, if you want to make a set of short-tube headers actually make around the same amount of power as a long-tube set, you'd have to rev the engine to around 10K rpm....

That is why short-tube headers are kind of pointless vs. long-tube setups, they don't start working until WAY up there in RPM range.
