    opening a oil filter

I ordered some auto rx for my motor and when I change for the new filter after the cycle I want to cut it open. Will a grinder light a fire or what? I want to see how much crap there is in my motor.

i think if you use a grinder you will put a lot of metal shavings in the filter contaminating any result. I believe Summit sells a oil filter cutter

hell, get it started then you should be able to open it with a pair of tin snips. might have to start it with a hacksaw or something tho. Or a big tubing/pipe cutter if you have one. Anyone who does plumbing work probably has something you can use. A chain cutter for doing pipes would fit the bill as well.
