Getting rid of something, or just adding to the fleet?

They gave me a hell of a trade-in (payoff) of the GMQ.

Did I mention this this is FAST? Easily the fastest thing I've ever driven. The brakes are humongous, too :D

Can't say I blame you, as long as you can afford it. Soon to be no more Ultimate Editions around these parts, methinks.

Congrats, mang.

Me=very jealous. I love AMG's...

Just wait for that $3k (canadian) brake job though, if its anything like our RS series Audi's...

Pesty, you haven't driven one. You'd change your mind quick fast and in a hurry after one full throttle blast. The exhaust also sounds unreal!!!

I just hope I don't get heckled too bad at SF

Tom, I'm not a Mercedes fan, but if it's one thing I've learned (a little late in life) ... it's have fun while you can. Hope you enjoy the new car.

Btw, we'll need pics and videos of this thing. I want to hear the exhaust. :D

Of course. I started the drive with it on, and turned it off. Standard procedure for me when test driving something fast.

Dickhead... I was really questioning your willingness to drop that kind of $$ on this... Personally I would buy an old Ferrari or an old Rolls Royce. Im not much of a new car person, but the guy I bought my car from recently picked up some mercedes that only 5k were made of for pretty cheap (cheap as in cheaper than it should have cost) Nice car, fast car, not my kind of car though.

507 hp? Hell yeah! Amanda says this is completely unnecessary; I disagree. I WILL own one of these when I am an O-2, or even an O-1!!

Just 507 hp? It's all about the torque, mang. Drive a CL65 before you settle for an E63. Cheaper, better looking, a true coupe (No B-Pillars!), and 738 lb-ft of beautiful, bountiful torque. The 600+ hp stock is nice, too.

I think Tom should buy one. However, I think this thread is a trial balloon to gauge reaction, lol.

However, I'm more completely sexual about the current BMW M3 (two door), to be honest.

Nothing like an old Mercedes. Safest car going.

I have owned this 1991 560SEC AMG since the mid '90's when I bought it near new. It was the top of the line model and I wanted the last year of it. It once belonged to the owner of the Beverly Hills Hotel, who I spole to, his wife made him get rid of it, saying it was "too flashy for Beverly Hills and I want a new BMW!" But he got to keep his Porsche 911 though.

I am keeping the Mercedes mostly as a seldom used toy now, though a year ago I drove it 40,000 miles.

A couple of times I had it up to 152 mph or so, but at that speed my foot was not to the floor yet. They are engineered to cruise at their top speed all day for the Autobahns, that have no speed limits in most places.

The older ones like this one are engineered to a "cost no object" baseline and their prices reflect it. MSRP on mine in 1991 was $84,000 - but mine still looks and drives as new. They demand care, and that is not cheap, but in return, will last forever. Examples with over 900,000 miles on them exist.

This Merc is more powerful. The M3 is sexy though, don't get me wrong.

And Once I am making that good pay I'll get one :D

Sweet Benz, EHJ!!!

My neighbor had an '81 240D 5 speed with 1700 miles on it. 1700. It was slow, but the car was so perfect it was insane. It was a burnt red color over saddle tan leather.

It burned to the ground in 2001, which was the real shame.

I prefer the CL, like TOTCG mentioned, but there are other things in line in front of one of those, if I was looking to spend $42,000+.

Like a down payment on a new ZO6.

I guess, if I had too, I could drive an AMG :D

I was thinking of an old 240d for the better half, she'd like it (well the looks anyway, prob not the smelly clattering lol), and it's a great end of the world vehicle - old diesels run after an EMP iirc.

old flatheads run after an EMP too. Anything with a generator instead of an alternator will generally run after an EMP. Old mechanical stuff works great.

During:

http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r388/cascade91/IMG_1556.jpg

It's called a "parking pole" and while it's an official Mercedes Benz accessory, and quite rare, it was ONLY ever sold in Japan, and for the W124 and W126 models only.

Here is one of them on a 560SEC Mercedes in Japan that was for sale at a used car dealer in Yokohama last year.

http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r388/cascade91/536-1_000275-2secparkingpole-1.jpg

Left hand drive Mercedes Benz cars were a VERY coveted and prestigious vehicle to own in right hand drive Japan, and some cars there over had them.

They do EXACTLY what you think they do; helps you find the front of the car at a glance when you park.

There were TWO models, that were available the one like mine and an identical one, with a plastic tristar on the top that lit up at night!

Very cool, *but* it had rubber wire running down the side, and after some years it got yellowed and did not look so good. (not cool)

They are worth about $300-$400 if you can even find one - but I got it for free, from a kind Member of benzworld in Atlanta, who responded to a respecful request.

Thanks for asking. People who see it always look puzzled and often ask me about it on the street.

Say what you want, but it is very hard to beat German engineering and craftsman's ship. There is a certain quality with BMW's and Mercedes that is not present in any other car, and I have to admit I am in love with. When I finish collage I WILL have a BMW daily driver.

Buddy of mine has a 1987 190D. It's the baby Benz, and according to Mercedes, it's the most overengineered car they ever made. The diesel 2.5 inline 5 has 93hp new, but will get 40 MPG with the A/C on.

One of the biggest things I like about this car is the orthopedic seats, which are adjustable in like 17 ways, and I also like the fact that the steering wheel is huge. This means that your arms are at shoulder width apart when you drive, which reduces driver fatigue.
