    Carb spacers?

Any benefit to a bigger one over a smaller one? Trying to get the heat away from my carb. Definitely going phenolic on it. Is it just trial and error to get the one that works best? I'm not to concerned with low end torque right now. I'm working in the 2500-6000 range with my cam anyway.

thicker will insulate better... but I think once you get over half an inch... it really doesn't help near as much for insulating purposes. Phenolic is definitely best for insulating it. Major point is whether or not the hood will shut. If you can fit an inch and still have an inch clearance... great... if you can fit an inch but have to set the hood down real soft so as not to bang anything... that's probably not going to be good. I know nothing about the performance aspects though.

With any spacer I have to cut the hood. I'm okay with that. I have a scoop.

With the 351, 1" spacer, a 1406 with a drop base air cleaner I can shut my stock hood if that helps.

Which intake though? I had an adaptor on this when I had my 2 barrel and it barely touched the hood. I'm not running a drop base air cleaner. Have to do something with my tv linkage first and my dizzy may still hit it.

The cheapest spacer I found a while back was the 1" plastic Summit four-hole for about $13.

A fun suggestion I've heard more recently is to buy some wood or a cheap plastic cutting board and make your own spacers.

The opening (4 holes vs. an open square) will make a difference. I'd imagine an open spacer would provide better power gains, but limit you on the low end, which you already dismissed anyway.

Right, thus the interest in the ability to whittle up your own spacers in any configuration, so that you can try multiple styles and tapers and whatever without paying Wilson Manifolds prices.

I don't mind paying for one I know will seal right. I've been doing some research and I think I'm gonna go with a 4 hole. Seems like it would be the better of the 2 options.

for your criteria and combo, you will probably like the 1" open spacer the best

Even with my fucked up engine combo? The cam is way too big and the heads way too small. Engine never really sees less than 2000 rpm.

                          yes for your combo

I dont know how big the random cam is, but generally smaller heads need more cam

Random cam is somewhere near .550 lift and no clue on the duration. Decent idle though. 13 inches of vacuum with a stock 2 barrel intake and 18" with the stealth. Runs a tad lean with my 650 dp.
