Those are neat cars. Does yours have the old Iron Duke or the V6? A friend of mine had a Duke with an automatic in a Fiero, and despite the completely crappy driveline it was still fun to drive. Hers had a bad rear tie rod end though and the back right tire would shift whenever you got on the throttle. Very strange feeling when the rear tire kicks on you.

That car is a death trap! I always hated working on the P.O.S.

Well this is my second one I've owned so I know their quirks quite well. This one is the duke but with a 5-speed. Just like driving a go cart.

dont cut your hands up on the exhaust!
that's the only dislike i have of the fiero

My only issue with them is that I'm allergic to fiberglass so when ever I work on them I get hives.

Cut hands on the exhaust? Why, is the exhaust manifold pointed toward the front of the car like it was on the N-body?

Pesty351

Yes it is pointed towards the front of the car towards the firewall.

Ah. Must be rather tight clearance there, then. Which would seem to suggest that the 2.8L cars must be even worse, no?

Pesty351
10-02-2010, 09:17 PM
Yeah and the 350's are even worse. lol.

now a 350 shoehorned into a fiero would be insane

I'm thinking a Fiero is a better candidate for a serious 4-banger effort ... but that's just me. :3gears:

I've never driven one, but there have been a few v8 swaps. One even had the northstar 32v caddy engine.
I'll bet it was fun to drive.
In stock form... meh...

Lots of people have done it. Its not really even that hard just pricey.

I see some interesting body kits on there! The Ferrari-looking widebody pic is kind of nifty, and then there's the GT40 Mk I lookalike.

Still, with the trouble and expensive of buying a conversion kit or constructing your own, and still ending up with an arrangement that barely fits, might it not end up being easier (and the results just as interesting) to bolt in a Cobalt SS drivetrain?

3100,3400, and 3800 seris motors bolt right in.

Eek, you'd consider a 3.1L over a good four-banger?

Pesty351
10-05-2010, 07:22 AM
No but I would consdier a supercharged 3800 over a four.

Ah. How much did those blown 3800s make stock, anyway? 240hp comes to mind.

Yeah and about 280 lbs/tq as well. A friend of mine had one in Grand Prix. Pretty quick, just some torque steer being FWD.

Ok so this damn thing is running funny. On the gas it runs great but at steady speeds it is missing, poppin', and buckin like a mother. I've done a complete tune up and gone over all the basics. Anyone have ideas on what I should look at?

egr valve still in place? might be pulling open too much or something. My Townie did that when it had egr problems. Valve went full open when it wasn't supposed to, and it chugged and missed something terrible. Unhooking the valve made it stop acting retarded.

Dude you totally win unhooked it plug the vacuum line with an old spark plug. Runs as well as an iron duke does.
