For some odd reason my car will sometimes stall. :guns: After I restart it, it will run for a second and die.
:chainsaw: Sometimes after I restart the car, it will run fine for a few blocks and then
stall again. :boink: If I jerk the car around with the hydraulics it will allow the car to start up again.
Other times it runs all day with no problems. I know it has nothing
to do with the new Mustang tank conversion, because it did the same thing with the stock tank.
Seems to me that it may be a fuel system problem, but I'm not sure
because I'm not a mechanic, I'm a body man. :poop2:

Yours is CFI right? Sounds like an electrical issue. Most likely a bad ground if it is that. Check the wiring to the injectors and such.

Make sure your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is nice and tight too.

yep sounds like a loose wire somewhere

Mine used to to that too. I took off the CFI and pulled it all apart and cleaned every thing. I cleaned my egr and checked for vacuum leaks. Changed my O2 sensor and got a new air and fuel filter and seafoamed it twice. Now my car runs good and has yet to stall. And Suprisingly the CFI still worked after I ripped it apart.

Check the ecm connector. Should be attachet to the Neg cable right near the battery. Mine acted funky when it was loose

You also should check the fuel pump and ECM relays. Thump them with a screwdriver handle while its running to see if the car fucks up.

Check your relays and the coil connections. Check the coil connections really well.

Ok man you come to the right place for CFI help! Check the connector that plugs into teh TPS and make sure the wires are not lose also even if you have to splice a new connector in do so b/c these connectors seem to just crumble and fall apart. Also check teh connectors at the the two injectors if the tabs are broken replace the connector because the bouce up and down and cause teh car to sput. Also check the main black connector for both injectors in sits right below the CFI housing if its not tight it will bouce around also. Once you check all that and if you are still having problems just hit me up on here or aim and i can walk you thru all teh steps i did to stop my stalling problem with my CFI and everything i checked.

the CFI on my '84 is just driving me nuts with it having an intermittent engine miss.... you drive it for a while, and it will start missing when your sitting at a red light.... Then at the next light, it will run fine.... we have changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor button, found one loose wire where the idiot that had it before me tried to splice the wire on the TPS... with TAPE... and twisted together... if you shook the wire the car would quit! My mechanic was taking the air cleaner off.. and the car quit... he looked over a me and said, "I've never had THAT happen!" So we thought we had it fixed.. as it ran fine after that... until I stopped at the first red light on the way home.... started missing like there was ONE sparkplug wire or plug messing up... but you put it in the scope... everyone is firing fine... So any ides on THAT??? Tom!!!

I saw those they look pretty bad ass.. I will have to wait till the car is 25 years old. that way i have no problems with all those retarded inspection laws.

Ok, i started it up and started tapin harnesses, and relays but i could not get it to stall. then i unpluged harnesses and pluged them back in still no stalling. but this time when the engine got up to temp it would not maintain a smooth idle, nor would it stay running if i let off the throttle. then i unpluged the harness going to the egr valve and the idle smoothed out but still no stalling... this is driving me nuts

Did you ever clean your EGR?
Chachi
09-26-2005, 06:02 PM
ya like 4 years ago, but i havent driven it much sence. mabe 1000 miles

hmm....
try it again.
perhaps it just needs to be driven...
Chachi
09-26-2005, 06:07 PM
i can do that.. but do you think that will fix the stallin followed by a no start
gadget73
09-26-2005, 08:16 PM
Clogged EGR will def make it stall and run like shit. Pull the whole CFI unit and take the spacer plate off, then clean it real good. Just pulling the valve usually isn't enough to keep it running right.

but thats just it . the car runs great most of the time. then at random it stalls and wont start untill i shake the car up withy the hydros

whoah a CFI thread! *joink*
Did you check all the wire harnesses, including the ones for the injectors? Did you open them all up??
A few CFI problems have been due to corrosion in the ignition/alternator wiring harness connector on the drivers inner fender well
My CFI is relatively trouble free :D
Chachi

The first place i looked was the ignition/alternator wiring harness connector on the drivers inner fender well. At one point i had a problem with my alt not turning on. A bad wire in that harness was to blame

I want to thank everyone for there help i found the problem and most of you were right it was electrical.
today i decided because i could not find the problem i would remove all the butt connectors under the hood and solder all the joints to elimiate posible failures. While i was under the hood i removed some gay blue electrical tape that covered up a lot of wires near the starter Solenoid. Under this i found 2 yellow 12 guage wires conected to one side of a yellow butt connector . this was connected to a 24 guage pink wire
(not factory) which had about 2 inches striped off the end and was wrapped around the batery side of the starter Solenoid. it was corroded all to hell. So i removed it then i cranked the car. It started for a sec then stalled. I tried a few more times and got the same results. Then i restripped the wire and connected it to the battery. the car started up great and ran great. so i'm sure that was my problem.
     . then after i fixed the problem i took the car for a test drive.. the engine ran great but the spinner on the right rear wheel broke and my wheel fell off!!! :(
so off to the junk yard i went to buy a set of steel factory rims :cuss:
$60 bucks later my wires are removed and black steelies are on.
My car hates me i tell you.

Woah, good to hear about the fix, and sorry about the wheels. You are going to put them back on eventually right?
Chachi
09-27-2005, 11:10 PM
ill need to buy a new spinner hub for the rim to bolt back up.i was thinkin of changin rim sizes any way. the 17" low prophile tired gave me a poor ride. i could feel every crack in the road. will see what happens next spring. mabe 14" deep dish wires with white walls
