    locking rear ends?

I was told that Aeros are bad about having their rear ends suddenly lock up, and that a lot of shops make good money replacing them. I've never heard or rear end problems with any Panthers, is this true?

I thought the biggest problem with late 90's Aeros was the plastic intakes cracking!

hmmmm dont know about this one, def not a common issue, biggiest issue i have seen is wheel cylinders, and maybe axle seals.

Same rear from about 1983 onward, the Ford 8.8. Usually all you hear about with the 8.8 is the axles getting worn out.

I've never heard of an aeros rear end locking up. Not to mention it's pretty much the same as everything else. Intakes, ya the all plastic ones will break.

Well, I don't know and never have heard of such a thing as rear ends locking up on Aeros. But today my friends 94 GM's rear suddenly locked up tight as he was getting on the freeway. The driveshaft had to be removed before the car was dragged unto a flat bed wrecker with the back tires locked up tight and screeching all the way. The wrecker driver says he picks up a lot of these Fords with the samething.? Could the problem be in the brakes instead of the rear end?

Usually, this is caused by seal leaking, the diff eventually runs out of fluid and bearings seize. I bet if you look at your buddies car, either the pinion seal or one/both of the axle seals were leaking, maybe all of them were leaking. ANY rear end will lock up if you run it out of fluid, GM/Ford/Nissan/Toyota, etc.......
