    1984 Towncar Transmission Slips from 1st to 2nd

    Hello

    Twncar is stil acting up... on does the slipping when under harder acceleration but sometimes i just wanna get going but dont want to hurt the tranny!!! On occasion when the gears are tryng to engage into second i hear a whining noise???? what should i do to keep this old beast on the road?

    The trans is shot. It needs a new trans. Nothing you can do will fix it, it needs a rebuild. Keep driving it and it's just gonna cost even more to fix.

      Have you checked the fluid level with the engine warmed up and idling? Is the fluid red or some other color? Does it smell burnt?

        fluid level was fine and red when i checked it at the start of this problem!!!! but as i said before it only shifts bad from 1st to second!!!! im sad!!!!

              You could try some of that Lucas transmission fix. I would drain a quart out and fill to the correct level with the Lucas added to the mix... maybe try a new filter while your add it. You could also try giving it a little more tv pressure by turning the screw clock wise half a turn or so.
