    instrumentation keeps blowing fuse

Hi, Am I in the right place if I have a 95 Grand Marquis? If so, I need some help! The speedometer/warning lights/volt guage keep blowing the fuse. Sometimes the car will go for several weeks without problems, sometimes it blows fuse after fuse. Any ideas on what may be causing this? My mechanic friend thinks it is the guage cluster. Wondering if anyone has experienced this or has ideas. Thanks!!! Dave

yea it might be the visor light wiring.......dont put a bigger fuse in and keep replacing it or you will melt the wiring.......the hot wire to the visor mirror light sometimes rubs thru and grounds out

Visor mirror lights work fine, rear defroster not working, neither is clock - it flickers on and off every 15 minutes or so. I had the fuse for the guages working Thursday evening, then the fuse blew the next morning when I started it, put about 10 fuses in - blew them all. All part of the fun I guess....

                  Hi MarquisGrande

I take it this is fuse 13, yes?

I think it is broken wires to the TCS (Transmission Control Switch) also known as the overdrive switch on the shift lever, strip off the steering column covers and I reckon you will see a little broken white wire at the base of the shift lever.

                  Regards

Dereck, YES, it is fuse 13! The transmission seems to work fine, is it just the switch for preventing the car from going into overdrive? Now, any ideas on the rear defrost not working? Thanks for the experts who have been there/done that! Dave

                      Hi MarquisGrande

Your transmission will work fine, the TCS is a momentary switch to toggle the overdrive on/off, by default the overdrive is on so unless you ever try and switch it off (or the fuse keeps blowing) you may never know there is a problem. I am so confident it is a broken wire to the TCS I will paypal you ten bucks if it isn't.

Your heated backlight my not be working because:-
                      • Blown fuse (HTD Backlite) under he hood
                      • Blown fuse 17 under the dash
                      • Bad heated backlight relay
                      • Bad LCM
                      • Bad control switch
                      • Bad wiring
                      • Broken defroster grid
