    Found my build sheet for my 80 Mark VI

    Had the back seat out of the Mark VI and found the build sheet in near perfect condition...
    Anyway's in the Remarks section it says: "show car press toronto signature"
    Would this mean it was built for an 1980 auto show or something?
    The production date on the car is july 28 1979.

    Any info would be great

    that is right on the build sheet? like stamped on or printed on? this is interesting, cause the 1980 chicago auto show showcases a red 4door mark VI

                        Lemme know if you are able to decipher any of that. Haven't had any luck decoding mine.

                        I framed my nice build sheet copy awhile back as well.

                          I have yet to find any build sheets on any car. and I've been through them quite in depth (save under the carpet or behind the headliner)

                            I have been talking to a guy from LOVEfords forum through email.. This is what we have so far, I need to get a better pic of my build sheet though.

                            Dave

                            A lot of this information is not really relevant in 2011, as much of the data/codes have to do with what crate or stack the parts were taken from, in order to identify the car if needed in future recalls or warranty work. This is different, added information compared to what we see on build sheets of the 1950s and 1960s.

                            0Y90G600947 54D - YD - 2L - FD -
                            0 = 1980
                            Y = Wixom, Michigan assembly plant
                            90 = Lincoln Continental Mark VI 4-door sedan product code
                            G = 351 cubic inch V-8 engine
                            600947 = the 947th Lincoln scheduled for production at Wixom for the 1980 model year, the first was 600001

                            54D = Lincoln Continental Mark VI 4-door sedan body style code
                            YD = Valino grain red half- vinyl roof
                            2L = Maroon (Ditzler Mix Code 3280)
                            FD = red interior....velour?

                            Sometimes the code indicates whether or not the car has a certain component like a sun roof or special wheel covers. What is important about this car is that it is clearly designated as a SHOW CAR. It is curious however that there is no DSO (ordering district) specified. This car had a special purpose, I am sure it was virtually hand-held as it went down the assembly line with extra quality control checks. Unfortunately without a LM shop manual for 1980 I can't decipher most of it - and the pictures are difficult to read, being a photograph and not a flat scan.
