    Whistling sound

I have a 2000 gran marquis with 26 k miles I have a slight whistling sound. It's real low and it only makes the sound when I hit the gas and only in 1st and 2nd gear. Is it anything to worry about can it be the alternator this car was sitting in a garage for years could that cause any problems?

intake noise? Where abouts is the sound coming from (if you roll your windows down and drive, does it sound like it's coming from the front or the rear or one specific side) ?

Does the noise go up in pitch as you accelerate, and then suddenly drop down in pitch when it shifts? This family of transmission is well known for being noisy in first and second. They make a whining sound that varies with engine speed. Its nothing to worry about, but it may get a little louder over the next 200k miles or so. If you've ever ridden in a Vic taxi, you'll hear it pretty distinctly. Those things whine loud mostly because they are beat to hell.
