View Full Version : ScottFest Dyno Day

SVT98t
03-11-2013, 10:20 AM
I would love to do a dyno day set up as something to do during ScottFest this year. I'm just trying the gauge the interest in this. We can get a group rate, as long as we have enough people commited.
I think it would be a great time.
I'd even bet a Seagrams on how much power the Tank puts down.
:D

Any takers to a dyno day?

By then, the Marauder should be boosted! By then I mean, in a few years when Sly comes up.

I just don't want to know. I suspect the results would simply frustrate me. Then again maybe if I get off my ass and have that intake ported like I've been talking about doing for 3 years, and changing the cam while I'm in there I might be more motivated. But I probably won't because I'm lazy and cars piss me off anymore.

I'd do it, just for the helluva it. Not expecting much out of a lopo with 185k and duals but I'd be curious to know what exactly it does...

If anything, it'll be a nice baseline for whenever the car gets built up. :borg:

How much do you think it would cost? I may be interested if it's not a crazy price, and my car doesn't blow up on the dyno.

I should take the Mark VII, just to see what a quarter million miles of stock HO will still put down.

I'll bring the 91 wagon. We can see what a quarter million mile lopo puts down. I'd be amazed if it's over 100 at the wheels.

Maybe I can figure how many miles are on my motor by working backwards from the output?

I'm interested.

What is a "dyno" anyways?

marquisman
03-12-2013, 09:16 PM
Its a dynometer. Its like a tredmill for cars. It measures HP and torque at the vehicles drive wheels.

Ohhhhh right. Yeah I'd be interested to see that.

ok....im interested...but only if someone brings a large "parts catching bin"....so when my motor goes 'poof!' ,we will have something to shovel the bits n pieces into........(and a trailer so we can haul everything away....lol)

I like this. I could be the theme to this years ScottFest. Last year was the "Year of the Wagon".
We could have the "Quarter Million Mile Shootout" - With dyno, drag racing, and maybe a brake test or something else. I'm not sure.
But regardless.
It sounds like there is plenty of interest. Which is a very good thing!

I have contacted a shop down the road from Scottmang and have set up a dyno for GMN. I will put down a deposit if we need one.
But if we get atleast 6 people/cars to commit, no deposit is neccessary.

The details:

Normal rate: $75 for 3 pulls.

Group rate is $65 for 3 pulls. We can hang out and take video and pics as well.

So as of now, I need atleast 5 other people to commit to $65 for 3 pulls, and we can do this.

Tenative date would be Saturday, August 10th. Time to be determined. Probably around late morning or early afternoon so we could still cruise in the afternoon/evening.

Get back to me RIGHT MEOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

250k miles with a flaky trans? you're in. Maybe I'll roll 250k on mine by then, though I doubt it. Its sitting a little shy of 243k at the moment. My trans is not getting any happier with itself, though at least it doesn't seem to be getting worse either.

mrltd
04-17-2013, 09:51 PM
the body is at 221K, motor has 20-30K more... It had at least 3 motors at 108K. It's quite the mess. But it keeps going, 150 miles a day.

SVT98t
04-17-2013, 09:52 PM
The motor and trans in the Tank are highly unhappy. Very. A lot. Like bad and stuff.
I only have 215k and won't even come close to 250k by then. But the original motor and trans my not be in it then...

I have 5 confirmed as of now.
YES!!

I'm gonna have to find a dyno day locally to get the 93 tallied up and see if it's really only got 230hp like Dallas Mustang said, or if the final tune gave it some more guts.

I'd also like to see what the 88 has left in it. It pulls strong still, but it's got 2.73 gears.

Saturday August 10th is CONFIRMED!!!!!!!
We have 10 spots total right now.
The list can expand if need be.
It still stands at three pulls for $65.
I'll come up with some award for highest and lowest power output.

I am really a novice when it comes to this.
What would a typical good stock lopo and a stock HO RWHP be?
Do differential gears change the #?
Torque converter?
Tranny governor?
