Pics and Vids of my old 1970 Torino Cobra

I bought this neat little box and software, to convert my VHS tapes to video files. I have a ton of stuff to convert. I found these videos I took of my old 70 Torino Cobra, at Atco Raceway in Atco, NJ. This is circa 1995, and this was the last time I raced the Torino. My Dad blew the engine up during the 11th run of the day, and the Fairlane was brought to life after that.

The car originally had the 360 horse "Thunderjet", which was a step below the Cobra Jet. It had the Drag Pack option, which was a 4-speed close ratio toploader, 4.30 gears, and the Detroit Locker with 31 spline axles. I changed the gears to 3.89's. The original engine let go back in the late 80's, when my brother's ran it in High School. I had a stock junkyard 460 bottom end, with low compression dished pistons (9 to 1 w/bolted on 68 heads), but I put this radical Lunati special purpose cam, with 310 duration and .540 lift on the intake/exhaust. It wasn't really matched for the engine, but it sounded cool. My best time was 12.7 @ 107mph which isn't bad for a 4,000 lb car. Here's a few pics, and three videos.

This is my old 89 F150. I wish I didn't sell that car trailer a few years ago.

I unbolted the exhaust for this day at the track, so she's running with open headers.

I sold off the body only to a resto place. It needed alot of work underneath, due to rust. I hated to see it go, but it was time to move on.

Thank you Mangs! I'm real good with the 4-speed Tom. Sometimes I wish I would have went the extra mile, and put that same trans in my Fairlane. I can still do it, and I'm always searching e-bay for the parts. The manual valve body C6 is nice too, and it shifts lightning fast.

I did have to run the car for time only, as we only "bought" one side of the track. I rented it out with a bunch of friends from Staten Island. It was like $50 for the day, split between 17 of us, and we had an ambulance crew and track staff. I had 21 runs in the first time I went in Oct 1995, and that day in Dec 1995, I only had 11 runs in until the engine let go with my Dad driving. That Torino was the King of Brick Memorial HS. My two brothers ran it while I was in the Air Force, and cleaned house. When it had the 4.30's in it, with the crappy bias ply tires of the day, it would burn tires in all 4 gears across an intersection. The original 429 ran well, until my youngest brother was running a 71 Mach 1 Mustang (worked 351 Cleveland) and blew it up. He was taking the 429 to 6500 rpm when it let go. :drug:

                    Awesome...

429 will handle 6500...I took our 68 up there all the time. Did fine until my sister got her license and ran it without oil....she ruined a few incredible vehicles.

My worst enemies are those who presume me to be harmless. They cannot imagine how much I resent and disdain them, or just how great a threat they would face if I could get at them. Everything in their behavior speaks of insult and presumptuousness, and for now it is all I can do to make constructive use of my anger toward them. At this time, I just make a list of them and keep a watch on. Some day, with the help of time, space, and circumstance, I will be able to humiliate them properly - not in a manner they would enjoy, but in a style calculated to make them wish that they had never been born.
