    Carb swapping concerns

I have decided to dump the CFI and put a carb on my LTC. But I have a few questions:

When I switch distributors, can I retain the coil I have, or will I have to get one of the old school cannister coils?

When I remove the computer, will it have any effect on the A/C system or the cruise control?

For now, I am going to put a 2 barrel carb on it, cuz I can rebuild one for cheaper than buying a new four barrel, and sometime in the future switch to a four barrel and E7 heads and headers. I just want to get the CFI off for now.

I have found a few 2 barrel Ford Motorcraft carbs on ebay, but I am not sure they will fit. Apparently they came from vehicles that had an auto transmission behind them.

    Heres some links to them:

Keep the coil. TFI coils work better.

Shouldnt. Just find out a way to hook the cruise control back up. Justin broke his when he had CFI, and used a hose clamp

Those carbs both look like they would work.

The boxy ugly T-Birds ~80-82 had a 2V carb and AOD, so the linkage will be a direct fit. You just unbolt the CFI and bolt on the 2V carb to the same intake.
This is what I have used on both my 83 Cougar and 85 T-Bird in the past.

Well, I realized that the carb I was bidding on had the wrong setup on the throttle. So, I stopped bidding before I won a carb I couldn't use.

Thanks Mercracer, for the info, that definately widens my chances of finding a carb.

LincolnMania-thanks, I wanted to ask, I figured Ford would pull some stunt where they integrate the Cruise control into the main computer. Doesn't matter though, my cruise doesn't work anyway, just wanted to make sure I could still fix it in teh future.

A 2-barrel? You must like horrible gas mileage. A 4-barrel will get better gas mileage.

??? More power maybe, but it will consume more gas than a 2 barrel.

And anyway, I am getting about 8 miles per gallon right now. How bad can a 2 barrel really be?

Thing is... The front two (primary) barrels on a 4 are smaller than the ONLY 2 on a 2 barrel. Thus, if you keep your foot out of it (e.g. - not making the secondaries come open) and it's tuned right you can get up around 22 mpg with a 4-barrel.
