    New Weatherstripping....

Well, JC Whitney sent me half the samples of the weatherstripping I need for the 84... i guess the others will come tommorow in a seperate envelope... don't know why they do that!

Anyway, I was able to match up the inside weather strips that go along the bottom of the windows...

Now I just hope they have something that will match the ones on the outside of the car... As those are the ones I REALLY need! I will say this... the new ones look alot nicer than the originals... they have up dated them nicely... used to be a rubber seal attached to a piece of stainless steel, that rusted anyway... these are ENCASED in the rubber... so they are sealed against rusting! I have to get the outside ones installed soon... I keep having to clean out the doors of leaves and crap that find their way past what is left of the old seals.... which causes RUST..... Not to mention, the doors will look MUCH better!!! Photos when I get them ,and get them put in....

I am in the process of putting the new window felts in... got those out of a Escort... believe it or not, they are identcal to the ones in the 84... So they fit really nice... and the ones I found are like brand new....

What seals are you installing, the ones that go around the door itself, or the dew wipes that sit up against the glass? I need dew wipes badly on my car, they're all cracked and have chunks missing. How is the quality? Last JC Whitney stuff I got fit badly and was pretty shoddy quality metal that wanted to bend and break.

These are pretty nice. The rubber completely enclose the stainless steel... And these are the "inner and out belt" weatherstrips... meaning the ones against the glass.... I was able to match excactly the inside seals with the samples that arrived yesterday... hopefully the others will come in the mail today, and I can match the outer ones.... Which are the ones I need to order first... (I figured about $100.00 for the entire set--- inside and outside)
The weatherstripping I got from the Escort are the window track felt seals....
I started removing the old ones, and they were so bad, I had to just break them up to get them out of the window channel... which means I have to take the door panel off to get the remainder of the old seals out... (the part below the window opening) What a pain! The last ones i removed from a car, I just pulled it out of the window track, and pulled... and the seal came out... Well, I have to cean out the door anyway.... and grease the window regulator, probably hasn't been done since it was new.... And clean out the inside bottom of the doors... no telling what is "growing" in there!!!! I also want to use the 3M undercoating on the inside of the doors... for sound deadening.... To make them sound more solid when you slam the door!

Got the new weatherstrip in the window channel done on the drivers door... Pulled the door panel off to check the inside of the door... it is pretty clean inside... I was suprised! I also figured out why my window was so loose... seems the two window wipes (the inside and outside weatherstrips, also called outer belts and inner belts) keep the window in line.... and with out them, it is loose as hell.... I thought maybe it had one of those window snubbers... and it looks like there is a place for one... but I can tell nothing has ever been installed there... Can anyone tell me what cars had those... so when I got to the junkyard next time, I can look for a couple of them???? Of course when I get the new window wipe weatherstrips in, it will solve the problem, but until then....

Also used some lithium grease on the guide track and the mechanism... it rolls the window up and down now soooo easy... (manual windows...) There was NO grease on it anywhere! Tommorow I'm going to vacume out the inside of the door and undercoat it... and then put the door back togather for now, until my weatherstrips get ordered, and delivered....

Does anyone know if anyone makes the plastic guide inserts that goes around the guide, that the window travels up and down on??? (I'll get some pictures tommorow... got dark!) They are like square plastic clips that snap into the "carrier" that holds the window, and it cusions the carrier that goes up and down the guide bar...

here is some shots of the door... It was earlier than I thought, and enough light outside to shoot some pictures...

Door apart... it was amazingly in good shape... Especailly the door panel, and the paper backer (They use plastic on the inside now, instead of the paper) So i am going to cover the back of the paper with plastic, then re-install it... So it will still look original, but have plastic to protect the door panels from water....

inside the door looking towards the rear.... 21 year old car.. and it is CLEAN inside!!! (Well, other than the remains of the weather stripping and a few leaves!) This will get cleaned out tommorow.. and undercoated....

remains of the weather stripping.... it was hard and brittle... it just fell apart....

This is where I was wondering if this is to install a window snubber....

This is the plastic or nylon guides i was wondering about.... if anyone knows where I can get some... these are a little worn... but not too bad yet.... just want to get some spares, in case... Seems I have seen them somewhere....

            another door....

I got another door done today with new weatherstripping.... And the inside of this door was as good inside as the last... no rust what so ever! I was worried about this door, since the drains were clogged up once, and I slammed the door one day, and it "Sloshed".... it had about 3 inches of water in it... I cleaned the little drain holes out... (it had leaves in the drains blocking it) and it POURED water out of the door!!!
After that, I am very suprised there was no rust!

            Two more to go!!! Tom!

That looks great! I'll give a buz up to the shop today, I have a feeling those guids might be available through Ford still. Mine are shot on both my front windows.
